NEW YORK (AP) - Two men wanted in the killing of a Nevada geologist in 1998 in Honduras have been captured on Long Island, federal authorities said Thursday.

The men, Santiago Matute-Reyes, 31, and Carlos Hernan-Romero, 28, Honduran citizens, had entered the United States illegally following the slaying and assumed false identities, according to U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement.

A team of federal agents arrested Hernan-Romero on Monday in Coram. Matute-Reyes was picked up in Medford on Wednesday.

Both men were being held in a federal lockup in New Jersey pending extradition to Honduras and couldn't comment, authorities said.

The geologist, George Wilson, 68, was shot to death while prospecting for gold.
