A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison on drug trafficking charges after heading up an operation transported methamphetamine from Mexico through Brownsville to Florida.

Authorities said Oscar Sosa, a resident of Palmetto Florida and Pasadena, Texas, appeared Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen, who sentenced Sosa to 360 months in federal prison.

A federal jury in October found Sosa guilty on a charge of conspiring to possess and possessing with intent to distribute three kilograms on methamphetamine, according to authorities.

During the trial, three men testified against Sosa by stating that he hired them to bring packages of the drugs on a bus from Brownsville to Florida, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Texas stated in a press release.

According to the release, the men would carry the drugs while on the bus and deliver the drugs to Florida. The drug trafficking occurred from September 2013 to March 2014.

The men were eventually arrested at a bus station in Harlingen. They pleaded guilty to their roles in the conspiracy and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from six to 20 years in prison, according to authorities.

Sosa will remain in federal custody pending his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
