Democrats are against secure borders or stopping the flow of illegal aliens, desired to be new voters and who will have millions of anchor babies. Just imagine these people are representatives for the American people. They don't mind the dangers, the hundreds of billions of dollars wasted.

We have had a do nothing Congress over many years and disappointing presidents who did not do their duty to fully secure the borders.

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi Fight with Donald Trump on Border Wall

    December 11, 2018

    [[

The president argued that funding the wall was a “national emergency” and proposed $5 billion in funding. Schumer refused, insisting that he would only provide just $1.6 billion in border security funds.

In response, Trump said he would shut down the government and take responsibility for it.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems, and drugs pouring into our country,” he said. “So I will take the mantle, I will be the one to shut it down, I’m not going to blame you for it.”

Trump surprised White House reporters by calling them into the Oval Office conversation that was originally designated as closed to the press. During the debate, both Pelosi and Schumer protested that it was taking place on camera.

Trump admitted that border security was a “tough issue” noting that Pelosi and Schumer opposed the idea of a wall. He cited border statistics showing that illegal traffic dropped substantially after they finished portions of the wall barriers.

Pelosi was frustrated at the tone of the debate in front of the media.

“I don’t think you should have a debate in front of the press,” she said.

She also defied the idea that Trump had the votes to get the wall funded, daring him to pass a wall funding bill in the House of Representatives.

“You will not win,” Pelosi said. “You do not have the votes in the House.”

Pelosi said that a shutdown was “not worth anything” especially his promised wall.

Trump expressed frustration that he needed ten votes in the Senate to get wall funding passed and insisted that he would not keep the government fully funded unless it had more money for border security.

“Let’s call a halt to this,” Pelosi said, pleading off an ongoing discussion.

Schumer also protested that the discussion was taking place in front of the press.

“Let’s debate in private,” he pleaded.

Schumer fired back that Trump did not need a wall to provide border security, citing “experts.” He also taunted Trump for Republicans losing the House of Representatives, reminding him that “elections have consequences.” When Trump reminded Schumer that Republicans added to their majority in the Senate, Schumer sneered, “When the president brags that he won North Dakota and Indiana, we’re in real trouble.”

“This has spiraled downward,” Pelosi concluded, calling the debate “unfortunate.”

“It’s not bad Nancy, it’s called transparency,” Trump replied.

He again vowed that he would not sign any funding bill without substantial border security funding.

“If we don’t have border security, we’ll shut down the government,” Trump said, adding, “We have to have the wall.”

Trump also reserved the right to have the military build the wall if Congress refused to fund it, possibly avoiding a partial government shutdown.

I'm calling it a fail on Trump's part.

He went into this meeting with headlines reading----
Donald Trump Claims Victory over Caravan Migrants

How can he ask for funding for a Wall with headlines like that?

Why didn't he go into the meeting with a video screen showing the invaders crawling over, under, and squeezing through the fence?

Then ask them why no funding? humiliate them with facts on murders, rapes etc.

Because DemoQuacks don't want the President to deliver on his promise and give him the win. DemoQuacks started this divide and conquer campaign on "broken promises" on immigration in March of 2017, 6 weeks into this Presidency. It's been very effective.

Trump to Schumer, Pelosi: 'I Will Be the One' to Shut Down Government Over Wall

    December 11, 2008

Arguing in public with Democratic leaders, President Donald Trump threatened repeatedly on Tuesday to shut down the government if Congress doesn't provide the money he says is needed to build a wall at the Mexican border.

Trump's comments came as he opened a contentious meeting with Democratic Senate and House leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, with partial shutdown looming on Dec. 21 when funding for some agencies will expire. The president and Pelosi tangled over whether the House or the Senate was holding up his proposal. Trump and Schumer jabbed at each other over the import of the midterm elections — and who will be blamed if a shutdown occurs.

"If we don't get what we want, one way or the other, whether it's through you, through military, through anything you want to call, I will shut down the government," Trump ultimately declared. "I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down."

The televised discussion was Trump's first encounter with the newly empowered Democrats since their midterm victories in the House. It offered a remarkable public preview of how divided government might work — or break down — over the next two years as the 2020 presidential election nears.

After the public session, barely a half hour passed before the Democrats exited their private meeting with the president, issuing stern warnings.

"This Trump shutdown, this temper tantrum that he seems to throw, will not get him his wall and will hurt a lot of people," said Schumer.

Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan acknowledged Tuesday that the GOP-led House has yet to pass legislation that includes the $5 billion in border wall funds that Trump has been requesting. Ryan likely lacks sufficient votes from Republicans who will lose their majority at the end of the month.

Trump is seeking far more for his long-stalled border wall than the $1.6 billion the Senate has agreed to for border security, including physical barriers and technology along the U.S. southern border.

The Oval Office meeting between Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and the Democrats began civilly, with Trump noting progress for bipartisan criminal justice legislation in the Senate. But the session quickly unraveled as he mentioned his promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Said Trump with a smile: "And then we have the easy one, the wall. That will be the easiest of all, what do you think Chuck?" Schumer shot back sternly: "It's called funding the government."

When Pelosi said he did not have that support in the House, Trump interjected: "Nancy, I do."

Pelosi later said: "This has spiraled downwards."

After Pelosi and Schumer noted Democratic success in the midterm elections, the president asked whether Republicans had won the Senate in the November election.
"When the president brags he has won North Dakota and Indiana, he's in real trouble," retorted Schumer with a smile.

Pelosi and Schumer have urged Trump to support a measure that includes a half-dozen government funding bills largely agreed upon by lawmakers, along with a separate measure that funds the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through Sept. 30. The homeland bill includes about $1.3 billion for fencing and other security measures at the border.

If Trump rejects that, Democrats are urging a continuing resolution that would fund all the remaining appropriations bills at current levels through Sept. 30.
"We gave the president two options that would keep the government open," Pelosi and Schumer said in a statement after the meeting. "It's his choice to accept one of those options or shut the government down."

Pelosi, who is seeking to become House speaker when the new Congress convenes in January, said she and many other Democrats consider the wall "immoral, ineffective and expensive." She noted that Trump promised during the 2016 campaign that Mexico would pay for the wall, an idea Mexico has repeatedly rejected.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said circumstances were "beginning to resemble a movie we've seen before," noting that Democrats forced a brief shutdown in January in a dispute over immigration policies.
"It didn't work out very well," McConnell said. "The reality is that the president's request is entirely reasonable."

Schumer and other Democrats supported a 2006 law that authorized hundreds of miles of fencing along the southern border, McConnell said, urging Democrats to again back physical barriers — by whatever name — along the border.
