Family seeks justice in fatal carjacking

Chesterfield Township -- Relatives say Matthew Landry was a loyal friend, musician and jokester, and they aren't about to let the world forget the innocent 21-year-old whose life was lost.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office late Friday confirmed a body found in an abandoned home in Detroit on Thursday was Landry's. He had been missing since Sunday when he was allegedly carjacked at an Eastpointe sandwich shop.

Matthew's brother, Chris, said the family had prepared themselves for the worst scenario.

"We pretty much knew," he said. He declined further comment.

Landry's older sister, Gina Harriman, said earlier Friday her family wants to make sure the "pure evil" killer responsible for his death stays off the streets.

"Right now, all we hope is justice will be served and that this doesn't happen to any other family," said Harriman, 32, down the street from her parents' Chesterfield Township home, with her younger sister, Christina, at her side.

"Unless you are living this, you can't imagine. It's a complete nightmare."

Five days earlier, Harriman said, she called six pages of hospitals in search of a John Doe. And friends and relatives scoured a northeast Detroit neighborhood, posted fliers and pieced together any clues they could.

But Thursday, their hope turned to grief when police discovered the body of a man in a vacant Detroit home near Seven Mile and Gratiot with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police said the body wasn't far from where Landry's Honda Accord was recovered a couple of days earlier.

The Roseville High School graduate was last seen Sunday afternoon when he left his girlfriend's house in Roseville to get a sandwich at the Quiznos at 10 Mile and Gratiot in Eastpointe.

Family said they later viewed surveillance footage that showed Landry being carjacked behind the shop and forced into the back of his car.

Detroit Police Department detectives and those of four nearby departments -- Eastpointe and Roseville, the Macomb and Wayne County Sheriffs' Offices -- are investigating the case.

Officials say a 17-year-old accused of a crime spree through several communities may be linked to Landry's disappearance and death.

The teen, Ihab Maslamani, is jailed, charged with a Roseville carjacking and a Harrison Township bank robbery.

Lt. Leo Borowsky of the Eastpointe Police Department said investigators continue to search for suspects who may have been involved.

"(Maslamani) is in custody, and he's not going anywhere," Borowski said.

Regardless of whether Maslamani is implicated in Landry's murder, immigration officials have begun the process to deport him to his native Lebanon, officials said Friday.

"We have placed an immigration detainer on him," said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Khaalid Walls. "Once his criminal issues are adjudicated, he'll enter into deportation proceedings."

Walls said confidentiality laws prevented him from saying whether Maslamani was an illegal immigrant. But certain violent crimes automatically trigger deportation proceedings, Walls said.

"Obviously, the crimes (Maslamani) has been charged with fall into that category," he said.

If Maslamani is convicted of a crime, deportation proceedings wouldn't occur until after his sentence is completed, Walls said.

On Friday, Christina Landry, 30, shared stories about Matthew. He was very into music and played drums, guitar and keyboards in a metal band he formed with high school friends, she said.

He even gave his twin nieces a set of drums for their fourth birthday, she added with a smile.

Matthew -- the youngest of five siblings -- always had the ability to make people laugh, she said.

"He was just a clown," she said. "That's what he's best at."

Relatives Friday established the Matthew Landry Fund. Donations can be made at any Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union. For information, call (586) 263-8800.

They also hope to create a music scholarship in his honor.

    hit them in thier pockets

Evey time a crime is committed by an illegal these families need to sue the city, police, their employer , state and any state that has previously arrest any of these illegals and let them go. When they figure out it will cost them less to deport them the first time they catch them, they will start enforcing our laws.
<div>Do your job and enforce the law!
Many thanks to the young that have served our country, and to those of you that have lost, we all owe you, thank you</div>

I read about the suspect from another source the other day. It made no mention about this murder, but it did the crime spree. This suspect was described as a juvenile that came here as a refugee and was a ward of the state in "foster care" and he ran away from wherever he was staying in the foster system, perhaps a group home. So I guess technically he wasn't an illegal alien, but he was a loose cannon with nobody taking any real responsibility over him.
Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...
