    Reid Sees Votes in Immigration
    Dec. 7, 2009

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) may not have a chance of passing an immigration reform bill next year, but that’s not going to stop him from keeping the contentious issue on the chamber’s front burner as he tries to rally Hispanic voters behind what’s likely to be a brutal bid for a fifth term.

Reid has repeatedly said that enacting comprehensive immigration reform is one of his top priorities and at one point even suggested the issue could be tackled in 2009. Although little movement has been made so far, those close to the Majority Leader say he will use his powerful perch in the months ahead to continue championing the issue and talking about the need to get reform enacted as he heads into next November.

Reid spokesman Rodell Mollineau said Friday that Reid remains committed to passing legislation during this Congress. “Sen. Reid has been publicly vocal for some time that an immigration overhaul that is tough and fair, secures our borders, and brings undocumented people out of the shadows is a top priority. It’s good for Nevada, and it’s good for this country,â€

In other words, Harry Reid is a corrupt, racist, anti-American bastard.

See below from above article and please keep up the pressure on Republicans (and moderate Democrats):

GOP aides said Friday that he [SCHUMER] has reached out to several other Republicans in the past several weeks. However, those efforts to find broader buy-in from Republicans have been unsuccessful thus far — and the fact that the health care debate has dragged on this long has pushed back Schumer and Graham’s timeline.

Of course he sees votes. There's little else he's interested in besides being re-elected.

Here is Mark Krikorians's take (and prediction) on this. I wish I could be as optimistic as he is, and we still have to keep the pressure on:

Always the Bridesmaid . . . [Mark Krikorian]

Amnesty keeps slipping further and further into the future. A Roll Call piece today, referring to Chuck Schumer and Lindsey Graham's scheming, says:

While the pair had originally hoped to have legislation ready by early next year, it now appears that the earliest a comprehensive package will be made public is in early spring, Democratic aides said.
And I especially loved this nugget:

"If we're dumb enough to put immigration on the floor next year, I'm calling a headhunter," one senior Democratic aide said.
But the authors of the Roll Call piece write that Reid will likely keep talking about immigration regardless, in an effort to motivate Hispanic voters to save his sorry hide in November:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) may not have a chance of passing an immigration reform bill next year, but that’s not going to stop him from keeping the contentious issue on the chamber’s front burner as he tries to rally Hispanic voters behind what’s likely to be a brutal bid for a fifth term.
Reid's ploy might even help moderate Democrats, giving them an opportunity to show that they don't march in lockstep with the leftists in their party. I can even see how Reid thinks debating immigration — with the assurance that nothing will actually pass — could help him, though I think he overestimates Hispanic voters' interest in the issue and underestimates the way it could further energize his opponents.

But what I don't understand is how the pro-amnesty advocacy groups can go along with such a charade, where Reid gets re-elected (supposedly) but they get bupkis. They'd be better off following the advice of the new head of MALDEF, who's arguing for a piecemeal approach to amnesty rather than trying to get the whole "comprehensive" enchilada. The specifics of his piecemeal approach are obviously pretty bad, and they don't have much chance either, but at least such a strategy isn't a complete fantasy.

Prediction: In his State of the Union address, the president will say that a "comprehensive" amnesty is needed in the long run, but economic and political reality demands that we lower our sights and make a "downpayment" by passing some targeted amnesty bills, like the DREAM Act.

I don't know why these idiots continue to believe that all latinos vote the same way, it would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

HELLO? HARRY? HELLO? How many "hispanics" who are legally residing in the US are hurt because illegal aliens steal their IDs? Whose IDs do you think illegal aliens steal??? How many legal "hispanics" have lost jobs to illegal aliens who will work for pennies on the dollar?

How do ya think those "hispanics" will vote Harry?

Notice I only mention the word "hispanic" in relation to legal immigrants and US citizens? Also notice there is no ethnicity when I write about illegal aliens?

Hispandering groups and their ilk continue to bray that illegal aliens are solely hispanic? PLEASE! Why would they do this? It's an insult and offensive to those of us who came here legally. STOP the HATE Laraza, Splc, mecha, lulac, guituirez, etc, etc,

These rabidly pro-illegal groups really need to assess the entire society of those categorized as Hispanic before declaring that all support amnesty. I have known many Latinos, both those whose families have been here for generations and those that immigrated legally, and not very many are happy with the idea of amnesty. Nor is any other ethnic group with the illegals they see from the old countries.
It seems these groups only respond to the faction that wants to get every last cousin (removed 14 times) and their families into this country.
I do so wish Harry Reid would be sent into history instead of the Senate again.
