FL: Lawyers say govt dragging feet on citizenship approval
Lawyers say government dragging feet on citizenship approval
Associated Press - June 4, 2008 5:44 PM ET
MIAMI (AP) - Immigration lawyers in Florida are suing the federal government over what they call extraordinary delays in approving citizenship applications, which could keep their clients from being able to vote in the fall.
The lawyers are seeking class action status on behalf of immigrants from countries around the world. They plan to hold a press conference Thursday to discuss the case.
According to the lawyers, plaintiff Luciano Horna has worked as a commercial pilot for 30 years. His wife and children are U.S. citizens, but the Panamanian national has waited for two years to get a decision on his application.
