In what is believed to be Martin County's first murder of the year, a Mexican citizen was arrested Friday evening after he fatally stabbed a man in the neck in the Golden Gate community south of Stuart, according to the sheriff's office.
Roberto Martinez Pedraca-Carillo, 27, was charged with murder and was being held without bond Saturday at the Martin County jail. His arrest report listed Stuart but no permanent address as his residence.
The sheriff's office on Saturday did not release the name of the victim, a Hispanic male. Sheriff's Lt. Jenell Atlas said authorities first had to contact his family.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the stabbing about 5:25 p.m. Friday at 3334 SE Ellendale St., according to Pedraca-Carillo's arrest report.
The victim's roommate told investigators there was an argument outside a residence there, after which Pedraca-Carillo entered the home, placed a knife on the kitchen table and ran out the back door, the report says.
Pedraca-Carillo was arrested in the 3100 block of Hawthorne St. after fleeing to the home of an ex-girlfriend and telling her he had stabbed a friend. He asked to hide there, according to the report.
Pedraca-Carillo told investigators he stabbed the victim in the neck after earlier arguments and a fist fight.
The victim died at the scene, Atlas said.
