    Non-citizens voting in elections

    By: Mike Deeson
Tampa, Florida -- Voting is a precious American right and Hillsborough supervisor of elections Buddy Johnson has made a big push to register voters especially in the schools.

Michael Carracedo was in a classroom in his high school and he says, "They came in and said, 'How many of you guys are 18?' The majority of the class raised their hand, and I raised my hand"

Carracedo says he was eager to exercise his right to vote. He filled out the application, turned it and one week later he got his voter's card. It enabled Carracedo to vote in the gubernatorial election and he says he was thrilled until he came to the immigration office to apply for citizenship.

The immigration officer told Carracedo he could be deported for voting.

"I did not know that you have to be an American citizen to register to vote," Carracedo says.

Jennifer Marks of the Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections office says, "Over the past three years the office has elicited 12,000 registrations and this is the first I've of this happening through the school program."

While Marks can't recall any problem like this, under law it can't require anyone who wants to register to prove they are an American citizen. That's why the office readily admits if an illegal alien wants to register and vote, there's really nothing they can do about it.

"It's absolutely conceivable that could happen," Marks says.

Even though Carracedo did sign a form saying he was an American citizen, he says he didn't pay attention to the form.

"I barely looked at it," he says. "I filled out the information and signed at the bottom. Like at any other form, there was small print at the bottom and I didn't read it. Obviously it was my mistake not reading it."

Marks says, "Ultimately you have to trust the word of the person who signs the form and when they sign an oath, they have ultimate responsibility."

But that means someone who wanted to stack the system with illegal voters could influence a close race and no one would ever know.

You'd THINK the activists would ADVISE them of this little fact, right? Why should they, they only want the votes, don't care what happens when illegals get caught.

Even one illegal voting in any of our elections is one too many since it undermines the vote of an American Citizen who has the right to participate in the political process!

You are absolutely correct, NoBueno. Keep in mind though, politicians wants VOTES, regardless if the person who votes is eligible or not. The activist organizations want $$$$$, so they keep quiet about this "little" law we have. When illegal aliens try to get legal status, they get caught and denied since they voted. Notice the activists are nowhere to be found denouncing these cases?

A copy of FL voter registration form is at:
    http://www.justvote.org/reg/FL.pdf

The second question asked is if you are an American citizen---how could he check 'yes' without reading it?
Why is he not charged with a felony? Ignorance of the law (or 'not reading what one is signing' [?]) is no excuse to violate the law.

There is an oath at the bottom left hand corner (I AM A U.S. CITIZEN.) and a warning--false information can be a felony with a fine of $5,000 and/or imprisonment of 5 years.

    Florida Rules:
    Qualification/Registration Requirements.back
To qualify and become a registered voter in Florida, you must:

Be a citizen of the United States of America.
    Be a Florida resident.
Be 18 years old (you may pre-register if you are 17 or if you have been issued a driver’s license before your 17th birthday.
Not be or have been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting unless you have had your voting rights subsequently restored.
Not be or have been convicted of a felony unless your civil rights have been subsequently restored.
Register in accordance with the requirements of the Florida Election Code.
To register to vote, you must complete, sign, and submit a voter registration application to the office of any Supervisor of Elections, or to the Division of Elections, any driver’s license office, any voter registration agency or any armed forces recruitment office.

Notice: In order to register, you must include on the voter registration application either your current and valid Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification card number. If you do not have a current and valid Florida driver’s license (FL DL) or Florida identification card, you must provide the last four digits of your social security number (SSN). If you do not have a FL DL#, FL ID card#, or SSN, you must write “NONEâ€

He should be charged for felony REGISTERING to vote and be deported.

Look at it this way you are talking about a class of people who see nothing wrong with breaking into a country, stealing someone elses Identity, lying about tax status (dependants) lying and using false documents to get a drivers license and it goes on and on...

Does anyone believe for one second they care about lying on a voter registration? I myself think not!! The laws mean nothing to them, they come from a country where their is no respect for the law!

    More than we know

I have illegal alien neighbors with a barak sign on their door. I believe it is much worse than the politicians want us to know.
It should be a serious crime with serious punishment. It's a act of war, I wonder what they would do to you in Mexico, anyone know?

Many thanks to the young that have served our country, and to those of you that have lost, we all owe you, thank you</div>

They should stop online voter registrations as well. Voting in this country is too easily accessed. It is a cherished Right for citizens ONLY.

I re-registered to vote at a petition site because when I registered at the DMV months before I never received my voter registration card. The person who took my registration had to C0-SIGN just like they sign when they collect signatures on a petition. They sign that they have collected the signatures of registered voters ONLY!

If these people were held responsible for the signatures they collect this problem would be stopped.

Kind of like going after the employers that hire them! Go to the source!
