A woman who police say was found unconscious and lying next to a garbage Dumpster in Kyle, has died as result of the injuries she sustained during an alleged aggravated robbery-turned-murder.

Mary Katherine “Katie” Mayfield, 34, died on Thursday, May 23, little more than a month after the April 21 ruthless assault that left her in critical condition, authorities said.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division filed an additional charge of murder, a first-degree felony, against Jaime Beltran Granados, 22, who has been in Hays County custody since April 25.

Authorities responded to the 5300 block of Yarrington Road in Kyle at about 5:52 p.m. on April 21 for the report of an unconscious female lying next to a garbage dumpster. Mayfield, who police did not identify until May 30, was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where she remained in critical condition due to a head injury.

A subsequent investigation by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office led to Granado’s arrest at an Austin home on April 25. Granados is being held on a $1.15 million bond and has a detainer placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. An ICE detainer is a notice that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issues to law enforcement agencies informing them that ICE intends to assume custody of an individual in their custody.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas -- A man who allegedly beat a woman and left her near a dumpster is now charged with murder after his victim died of her injuries about a month after the incident.

Jaime Beltran Granados, 22, was originally charged with aggravated robbery after Katie Mayfield, 32, was found severely beaten in San Marcos on April 21.

According to an affidavit, Mayfield was seen getting into a car with Granados, but never made it home. An investigation led officials to Granados, and he was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.

Mayfield was taken to University Medical Center where she died on May 23 from her injuries. On May 29, the Hays County Sheriff's Office charged Granados with murder, a first degree felony.

Granados is in the Hays County Jail on a bond of $1.15 million. Family told KVUE last month that he is originally from Mexico. He now has a detainer placed on him by Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
