17 Haitians taken into custody by Border Patrol

Abandoned boat found on shore at Ocean Ridge

OCEAN RIDGE, Fla. —The U.S. Border Patrol took 17 people into custody early Sunday morning after an abandoned boat was found in Ocean Ridge.

Authorities with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said a call was received about 5:45 a.m. regarding undocumented immigrants in the 1900 block of Ocean Avenue.

A Sheriff's Office helicopter spotted the abandoned boat, and footprints could be seen leading away from it.


Deputies and Delray Beach police officers found 15 adults and two infants who appeared to be from Haiti. The U.S. Border Patrol has taken over the case.
