- AT LEAST 9 MIGRANTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ALONG JUPITER ISLAND
http://www.wpbf.com/image/view/-/276...ter-Island.jpg - At least nine Haitian migrants were taken into custody after their boat came ashore along Jupiter Island overnight Wednesday, according to US Border Patrol. Reporter Chris McGrath was on scene live to report the latest.
Local police and sheriff's deputies from Palm Beach and Martin Counties joined in the search for more migrants seen running from the beach near the county line.
By 6:30 a.m., there was a large police presence along Beach Road, north of the Jupiter Inlet.
Shortly after, patrol officers stated that six migrants were in custody at that time, which is what was reported in our initial live report.
Border Patrol agents said this is likely a case of human smuggling out of the Bahamas, where migrants from Haiti pay criminal smugglers thousands of dollars to bring them to the Florida coast with the hope at a better life.

Agents said they located a 17-foot boat washed up on a beach along Jupiter Island.
Agents said the migrants appeared to be in good health.
It is unclear if law enforcement arrested any smugglers.
