More than 20 arrested in sham marriage scheme
DES MOINES, Iowa Nearly two dozen people in the Des Moines area have been arrested on federal charges for their alleged involvement in sham marriages to sidestep immigration laws.
Officials say the three-year investigation, dubbed Operation Wedding Band, targeted people who took money to marry foreigners, and most were from Kenya.
So far, 40 Des Moines-area people have been indicted. Twenty are still being sought.
U-S Attorney Matthew Whitaker says the it's the first wave of arrests, and more than 100 other people are under investigation. Similar investigations are under way across the country, but the Des Moines sweep turned up one of the largest clusters of arrests in recent years.
Whitaker says Des Moines appealed to Kenyans because a few people had success with fraudulent marriages earlier this decade and then helped friends in their homeland.RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

I suppose if you're going to break the laws to come here, what's committing a little fraud to be able to stay here?

Cause I'm a sweet and charming Southern Lady. I shouldn't say such things, Sir. You know that! We ladies only say such things over tea in the parlor while the menfolk go have a cigar in the smoking room with a drink and talk politics.
My face is red just thinking about writing or say such things out loud, mercy me!

My apologies, Ma'm. How ungentlemanly of me to presume that you would think anything untoward.
You are obviously a lady of culture and refinement and and a person of the finest sensibilities.
I suppose it shows what a lout men can be. I will just slink off to the parlor for a cigar.
Good evening, fair lady. When we gonna wake up?
