22 Illegal Immigrants Found in Stolen Trailer

MISSION -A report of a stolen trailer led to the detainment of 22 illegal immigrants and the arrest of a Beaumont man.

The owner of the trailer reported it stolen around 7:47 a.m. Mission police spotted it on Interstate 2/Expressway 83 and stopped the driver, a 40-year-old man from Beaumont. When officers opened the back of the trailer, they found a group of people inside.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spotted men inside the trailer. There didn’t appear to be any women or children in the group.

Border Patrol agents arrived. They provided the group water, as they waited for the 22 people to be transferred from the scene.

Mission police said they turned over the investigation to Border Patrol agents, so the driver may not face state charges. His case will be held in federal court.
