A knifeman yelling “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) stabbed four commuter passengers at a train station in Germany early Tuesday morning, May 10. One victim since succumbed to his wounds.

The attacker was subsequently captured and the train station in Grafing, just outside Munich, was sealed off.

German media reported the prosecutor in the case said the stabber had an “apparent Islamist” motive. At press time, the identity of the attacker had not been released with the media issuing conflicting reports about his identity. He was alternatively identified as a young German man who converted to Islam and became radicalized and as an asylum seeker.

Bavarian Radio said he was “a young German man not previously known to the police.”

To date, more than 800 Germans have left the country to join jihadi groups in Syria and Iraq. The Islamic State issued directives for those of its supporters who have not yet left to perpetrate terror attacks on the homefront.
