TSA agent accused of helping smuggle illegal immigrants into US

A Transportation Security Administration agent is in hot water for allegedly smuggling illegal aliens into the country.

The Washington Free Beacon reports David Alexander Diaz-Torres was arrested in Orlando, Fla. Friday for participating in a scheme with five others to smuggle a group of Brazilian nationals into the United States.

Specifically, Diaz-Torres, a TSA agent, allowed the cadre of Brazilians through a security checkpoint at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 24 of last year without questioning. The group then reportedly flew to New York, Boston, and Philadelphia on commercial flights

“It is very troubling when law enforcement authorities have to arrest a corrupt federal employee who is alleged to have undermined our nation’s security, our overall safety, and the public trust and confidence we place in those chosen to protect and serve,” a U.S. attorney reportedly said in a statement.

“The Justice Department’s commitment to preventing human smuggling, bringing smugglers to justice and assisting victims has never been stronger.”

Diaz-Torres faces 10 years in prison, according to a press release from the U.S. Justice Department.
