Fox Host Falsely Claims New York's Municipal ID Program Will Give Undocumented Immigrants Voting Rights

7 hours and 14 minutes ago ››› CAL COLGAN

Fox News co-host Steve Doocy claimed New York City's new law allowing municipal identifications to all city residents will allow undocumented immigrants to vote in state and local elections. But New York City's election law clearly stipulates that only U.S. citizens can vote, and experts explain that the municipal IDs provide much-needed services the city's residents.

New York City Mayor Announces Municipal IDs Will Give Free One-Year Access To New York Cultural Institutions

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio Announces Municipal ID Will Give Free One-Year Access ToCity'sCultural Institutions. On September 19, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that residents who register for the city's municipal identification cards in January 2015 will receive free admission to the city's top cultural institutions for one year:

"The municipal ID is a powerful tool to bring more New Yorkers out of the shadows and into the mainstream. It is now also a key that opens the door for hundreds of thousands of more New Yorkers to our City's premier assets in culture, science and entertainment," said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "The Municipal ID Card embodies the values we cherish most about inclusivity and equality, and these memberships are another step forward on providing greater access and opportunity for our people." [NYC.gov, 9/18/14]

    Fox Host
Claims Municipal ID Program Will Give Undocumented Immigrants Voting Rights

Fox's Steve Doocy: Undocumented Immigrants Could Use ID Cards To Vote In Local And State Elections. In a September 19 segment highlighting de Blasio's municipal ID program, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy claimed that New York City's new municipal ID program will allow undocumented immigrants to vote in local and state elections:

DOOCY: Mayor de Blasio here in New York City ran on making sure that people in this country illegally who make New York City their home could get an I.D. card that they could use to, among other things, vote in local and state elections. Well, now, to try to get as many people as possible to get these cards, these New York City municipal I.D. cards, what they're doing is they're going to have incentives. Go ahead, get a membership for one year to 33 of the city's signature cultural institutions, like the Bronx Zoo, the Met, Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. [Fox News, Fox & Friends, 9/19/14]

New York City's Election Laws Prohibit Non-Citizens From Voting

New York City Board Of Elections: Only US Citizens Can Register To Vote. According to New York City's Board of Elections, only U.S. citizens are eligible to register to vote in the city (emphasis added):

To register to vote in the City of New York, you must:

    1. Be a citizen of the United States (Includes those persons born in Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
    2. Be a New York City resident for at least 30 days.
    3. Be 18 years of age before the next election.
    4. Not be serving a jail sentence or be on parole for a felony conviction.
    5. Not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court.
    6. Not claim the right to vote elsewhere (outside the City of New York). [Board of Elections in The City of New York, accessed 9/19/14]

Municipal IDs Provide Much-Needed Services For Undocumented Immigrants

Center For Popular Democracy: Municipal IDs Improve Undocumented Immigrants' Access To Community Services And Increase Community Participation. In a 2013 report on municipal ID programs, the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) explained that the "ability to provide proof of identity is a basic necessity" that affects "almost every aspect of daily life." According to CPD, having access to identification cards improves overall community safety by giving undocumented residents better access to local authorities, allows cardholders access to "basic services" like cashing checks and seeing a doctor, and decreases problems of racial profiling. CPD explained the goals of municipal IDs in their report:

    • Improve community safety by making it easier for those without state-issued ID to interact with local authorities.
    • Improve access to financial services by providing a form of ID that will allow those without other forms of identification to open bank accounts.
    • Mitigate impact of racial profiling.
    • Make symbolic statement of welcome and solidarity to immigrant residents.
    • Promote unity and sense of membership in the local community among all residents. [Center for Popular Democracy, December 2013]

Catholic Legal Immigration Network: "Offering Municipal ID Cards To All City Residents Is Fundamentally Fair."
In an April 14 memo, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC) asserted that cities throughout the US should issue municipal ID cards to all residents and that doing so would allow marginalized residents access to basic necessities like community safety, housing, health care at local clinics, and financial services:

    • All residents deserve the right to be identified. The ability to prove one's identity is a fundamental human right - not a privilege.
    • Municipal ID cards allow all residents the opportunity to participate more fully in the economy and meet their basic needs such as buying groceries. Paying for purchases with a check, credit card, or debit card often requires an ID.
    • Identification will enable card holders to access services essential to their families such as renting apartments, obtaining utilities, accessing health clinics, filling prescriptions, acquiring insurance, and picking up their children at school.
    • Enabling individuals to open bank accounts so that they don't have to carry their savings protects them from theft. Access to banking services allows people to save to support their families and to participate more easily in the economy.

    [...]

    • The ability to prove one's identity increases the likelihood that an individual will report a crime and file a police report. In particular, those without immigration status will be less fearful of detention and deportation.
    • Law enforcement will spend less time and fewer resources identifying individuals when all residents are eligible for municipal ID cards. Police will be able to focus on protecting the public.
    • When all city residents can prove their identity, city employees such as firefighters and EMTs can better serve everyone. [Catholic Legal Immigration Network, April 2014]

CNN: San Francisco Implemented Municipal ID Program To Address Public Safety Concerns For Immigrants.
On February 24, CNN reported that San Francisco city officials implemented a municipal ID program to address the "serious public safety problem" that occurs when immigrant victims are unable to report crime to local police:
"Residents without access to bank accounts often carry large amounts of money on them or store it in their homes, making them targets for crime. And, those who can't produce proof of identity are often reluctant to report crimes to the police," said Megan A. Caygill-Wallach of the San Francisco city administrator's budget and planning office.
Although immigrants are victimized by crime at rates similar to or greater than the general population, they report crime at lower rates, according to studies. The underreporting of crime poses a serious public safety problem and erodes the ability of law enforcement to function effectively in the city. [CNN, 2/24/14]

Other Marginalized Residents Also Benefit From Municipal IDs

Catholic Legal Immigration Network: Municipal IDs Help Other "Vulnerable Residents" Like The Elderly. In its 2014 memo, CLINIC argued that municipal IDs also help the elderly, low-income residents, the homeless and the recently incarcerated:

    • Municipal ID cards will help our most vulnerable residents, including undocumented immigrants, victims of domestic violence or natural disaster, the homeless, low-income senior citizens, and the formerly incarcerated.
    • The ability to prove one's identity fosters a sense of pride, belonging, and shared community and facilitates integration and participation in civic life.
    • When residents can access the services necessary to take care of themselves and their families, communities become socially and economically stronger. [CLINIC, 4/2014]

EXPOSED: Far Left Soros-Funded Media Matters Helped Produce CBS News Reports

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, April 20, 2014, 9:22 PM

    Guest post by Kristinn Taylor

The liberal media and conservative outlets are highlighting former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson’s speculation that Media Matters for America is being paid to attack her reporting that was perceived as critical of the Obama administration. That’s a dog bites man story. Of course the Democratic Party front group is paid to attack reporters and media outlets that critically report on President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.
What stood out in Attkisson’s comments about Media Matters, made in an interview with Brian Stelter on CNN’s Reliable Sources that was broadcast on Sunday, was the revelation that Media Matters helps produce news reports for CBS News—and given the matter of fact way Attkisson mentioned it—presumably other liberal news outlets as well.
It is widely known that Media Matters ‘works the refs’ in media–trying to spin reporters to discredit conservative media, talk radio personalities and politicians and to report favorably on Democrats.
What has not been widely known until today was the Democratic Party front group’s role in actually producing the news.
Attkisson:Media Matters, as my understanding, is a far left blog group that I think holds itself out to be sort of an independent watchdog group. And yes, they clearly targeted me at some point. They used to work with me on stories and tried to help me produce my stories, and at some point –
After Sunday’s broadcast, CNN posted a follow-up story that included a response from Media Matters. The response does not mention previous collaborations with Attkisson and CBS News in producing news reports for the network.
“We also sought comment from Media Matters; Attkisson said she thought it was possible that the liberal media monitoring group had been paid to discredit her. Media Matters responded:
“”Sharyl Attkisson is continuing a pattern of evidence-free speculation that started at the end of her tenure at CBS. We have never taken contributions to target her or any other reporter. Our decision to post any research on Attkisson is based only on her shoddy reporting.””
There was no mention of Media Matters working with Attkisson to produce news reports for CBS News in the recent hit piece by David Brock’s Senior Fellow attack poodle Eric Boehlert posted at Media Matters on April 17th with the laughably dishonest headline (if Attkisson is to be believed):
Sharyl Attkisson Keeps Peddling Hollow ‘Liberal Media Bias’ Claim
Former CBS Reporter Apparently Can’t Produce Any Proof For Conspiracy
CBS News should disclose which reports by the network were done in collaboration with the Democratic Party front group Media Matters. Attkisson should also disclose on which stories she collaborated with Media Matters.
    Context of Attkisson’s statement:
    Transcript by CNN
STELTER: On the flip side, you’ve been treated harshly by some on the left who say you are presenting conservative bias. You got these dueling impressions of you. Is there truth to that? How do you feel when you’ve heard that?

ATTKISSON: I do think, again, that’s a campaign by those who really want to controversialize the reporting I do so you wouldn’t listen to it, because if anybody took a few minutes really just do a Google search, you would see the dozens and dozens of stories I’ve done that were, in many cases, complemented by liberal press and other liberals as being a very good story, and I have been criticized by the conservative side in the past.
So, I think it wouldn’t take — it wouldn’t take much for someone –
STELTER: Do you think that’s what Media Matters is doing? Media Matters has been campaigning against you and saying you’ve been inaccurate in your reporting, is that what they’re doing? They’re just trying to controversialize the issue?
ATTKISSON: Media Matters, as my understanding, is a far left blog group that I think holds itself out to be sort of an independent watchdog group. And yes, they clearly targeted me at some point. They used to work with me on stories and tried to help me produce my stories, and at some point –
    STELTER: That’s interesting.
ATTKISSON: Well, I think they call — don’t they call you? I mean, they call journalists and they’re trying to –
STELTER: Right, they’re always emailing things, making us –
    (CROSSTALK)
STELTER: — try to act outraged about something, right?
ATTKISSON: And I was certainly friendly with them as anybody, good information can come from any source. But when I persisted with Fast and Furious and some of the green energy stories I was doing, I clearly at some point became a target, that they — you know, I don’t know if someone paid them to do it or if they took it on their own. But they were very much –
STELTER: Do you think that’s possible that someone paid them?
ATTKISSON: Well, they get contributions from — yes, they get contributions from –
STELTER: But specifically to target you?
ATTKISSON: Perhaps, sure. I think that’s what some of these groups do, absolutely.

Why Don't We Hear About Soros' Ties to Over 30 Major News Organizations?

    By Dan Gainor
    Published May 11, 2011

Editor's note: This is the first of a two part series on George Soros and the media.

When liberal investor George Soros gave $1.8 million to National Public Radio , it became part of the firestorm of controversy that jeopardized NPR’s federal funding. But that gift only hints at the widespread influence the controversial billionaire has on the mainstream media. Soros, who spent $27 million trying to defeat President Bush in 2004, has ties to more than 30 mainstream news outlets – including The New York Times, Washington Post, the Associated Press, NBC and ABC.
Prominent journalists like ABC’s Christiane Amanpour and former Washington Post editor and now Vice President Len Downie serve on boards of operations that take Soros cash. This despite the Society of Professional Journalists' ethical code stating: “avoid all conflicts real or perceived.”
This information is part of an upcoming report by the Media Research Centers Business & Media Institute which has been looking into George Soros and his influence on the media.
The investigative reporting start-up ProPublica is a prime example. ProPublica, which recently won its second Pulitzer Prize, initially was given millions of dollars from the Sandler Foundation to “strengthen the progressive infrastructure” – “progressive” being the code word for very liberal. In 2010, it also received a two-year contribution of $125,000 each year from the Open Society Foundations. In case you wonder where that money comes from, the OSF website is www.soros.org. It is a network of more than 30 international foundations, mostly funded by Soros, who has contributed more than $8 billion to those efforts.
The ProPublica stories are thoroughly researched by top-notch staffers who used to work at some of the biggest news outlets in the nation. But the topics are almost laughably left-wing. The site’s proud list of “Our Investigations” includes attacks on oil companies, gas companies, the health care industry, for-profit schools and more. More than 100 stories on the latest lefty cause: opposition to drilling for natural gas by hydraulic fracking. Another 100 on the evils of the foreclosure industry.
Throw in a couple investigations making the military look bad and another about prisoners at Guantanamo Bay and you have almost the perfect journalism fantasy – a huge budget, lots of major media partners and a liberal agenda unconstrained by advertising.
One more thing: a 14-person Journalism Advisory Board, stacked with CNN’s David Gergen and representatives from top newspapers, a former publisher of The Wall Street Journal and the editor-in-chief of Simon & Schuster. Several are working journalists, including:
    • Jill Abramson, a managing editor of The New York Times;
    • Kerry Smith, the senior vice president for editorial quality of ABC News;
    • Cynthia A. Tucker, the editor of the editorial page of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
ProPublica is far from the only Soros-funded organization that is stacked with members of the supposedly neutral press.
The Center for Public Integrity is another great example. Its board of directors is filled with working journalists like Amanpour from ABC, right along side blatant liberal media types like Arianna Huffington, of the Huffington Post and now AOL.
Like ProPublica, the CPI board is a veritable Who’s Who of journalism and top media organizations, including:
    • Christiane Amanpour – Anchor of ABC’s Sunday morning political affairs program, “This Week with Christiane Amanpour.” A reliable lefty, she has called tax cuts “giveaways,” the Tea Partyextreme,” and Obama “very Reaganesque.
    • Paula Madison – Executive vice president and chief diversity officer for NBC Universal, who leads NBC Universal’s corporate diversity initiatives, spanning all broadcast television, cable, digital, and film properties.
    • Matt Thompson – Editorial product manager at National Public Radio and an adjunct faculty member at the prominent Poynter Institute.
    The group's advisory board features:
    • Ben Sherwood, ABC News president and former "Good Morning America" executive producer
Once again, like ProPublica, the Center for Public Integrity’s investigations are mostly liberal – attacks on the coal industry, payday loans and conservatives like Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. The Center for Public Integrity is also more open about its politics, including a detailed investigation into conservative funders David and Charles Koch and their “web of influence.”According to the center’s own 990 tax forms, the Open Society Institute gave it $651,650 in 2009 alone.
The well-known Center for Investigative Reporting follows the same template – important journalists on the board and a liberal editorial agenda. Both the board of directors and the advisory board contain journalists from major news outlets. The board features:
    • Phil Bronstein (President), San Francisco Chronicle;
    • David Boardman, The Seattle Times;
    • Len Downie, former Executive Editor of the Washington Post, now VP;
    • George Osterkamp, CBS News producer.
Readers of the site are greeted with numerous stories on climate change, illegal immigration and the evils of big companies. It counts among its media partners The Washington Post, Salon, CNN and ABC News. CIR received close to $1 million from Open Society from 2003 to 2008.
Why does it all matter? Journalists, we are constantly told, are neutral in their reporting. In almost the same breath, many bemoan the influence of money in politics. It is a maxim of both the left and many in the media that conservatives are bought and paid for by business interests. Yet where are the concerns about where their money comes from?
Fred Brown, who recently revised the book “Journalism Ethics: A Casebook of Professional Conduct for News Media,” argues journalists need to be “transparent” about their connections and “be up front about your relationship” with those who fund you.
Unfortunately, that rarely happens. While the nonprofits list who sits on their boards, the news outlets they work for make little or no effort to connect those dots. Amanpour’s biography page, for instance, talks about her lengthy career, her time at CNN and her many awards. It makes no mention of her affiliation with the Center for Public Integrity.
If journalists were more up front, they would have to admit numerous uncomfortable connections with groups that push a liberal agenda, many of them funded by the stridently liberal George Soros. So don’t expect that transparency any time soon.

To John Doe 2: Are you for real? Sneaking across the border into the U.S. is supposed to be illegal yet they become permanent squatters with food stamps and unlimited welfare. If they are here many will vote whatever the law is supposed to be. The point is that if they are here they function as de facto citizens. The laws are never enforced against them. And municipal ID cards will certainly be accepted as validation for them to vote, you can be certain of that.

HERE'S THE POINT: THESE PEOPLE ARE CITIZENS OF A FOREIGN COUNTRY WHO SHOULD NOT EVEN BE HERE. WHY ARE THEY GIVEN ANYTHING OTHER THAN A BUSS RIDE SOUTH OF OUR BORDER? After we take whatever money they have to pay us for the expense.

The article is from the Obama Left wing, pro illegal immigration, in my opinion, propaganda machine Media Matters.

This is what one would expect from the Socialist Democrats that are desperate to stay in power.
