Fresno man sentenced to prison for producing fake ID documents

FRESNO, Calif. - Esteban Mendoza-Galeno, 44, of Fresno, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill to two years and three months in prison for producing fraudulent government identification documents, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

According to court documents, between February and March 2012, Mendoza-Galeno manufactured and sold to customers in Fresno false identification documents, such as social security cards and permanent resident cards, for up to $120.00 for a set of documents. Judge O’Neill enhanced Mendoza-Galeno’s sentence based on his possession of approximately 213 images of fraudulent documents on various items of electronic media, including Mendoza-Galeno’s laptop computer and thumb-drives. In sentencing Mendoza-Galeno, Judge O’Neill told him “You are an experienced fraud.”

This case was the product of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Baker prosecuted the case.
