Action Alert

Amnesty is not the answer
The rule of law must be the foundation of immigration reform

The United States Senate is debating immigration reform, and needs to know that the majority of the citizens of this country do not support illegal immigration and are opposed to rewarding those who broke our laws. Sensible reform requires that our borders be secured, the employment magnet be turned off, and our policies do not place American citizens at a disadvantage.

Send a message to the two U.S. Senators from your state and let them know how you feel.

Illegal immigration is one of the most serious issues currently facing our Nation. Not everyone who violates our immigration laws is simply looking for work. Some people are seeking to commit crimes, and still others want to destroy our country.

The most effective way to stop illegal immigration is to turn off the employment magnet. This can only be achieved if employers are able to easily determine who has a right to work in this country and held accountable for checking to ensure that each prospective employee is in fact eligible to work here. Such a system will require the use of a single counterfeit-proof document that establishes both identity and employment eligibility.

Rewarding lawbreakers will only encourage more lawlessness. The "earned adjustment" provisions passed by the Judiciary Committee will send the clear message that the United States is not serious about enforcing its immigration laws, and will increase illegal immigration. This is not conjecture; it happened after the passage of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act.

It is also imperative that the millions of Americans who are unemployed and underemployed not be further disenfranchised by a guest worker program. While there may be a few jobs that Americans won't do, they will fill most jobs as long as they are paid decent wages.

Remember that you represent the citizens of this country, and vote accordingly.
