Omar Ramirez-Ramos (Source: Buncombe Co. Detention)

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -A man from Guatemala was sentenced in federal court in western North Carolina on Thursday after reentering the U.S. following his deportation.

Omar Ramirez-Ramos, 34, was arrested in Oct. 16 during a traffic stop in Polk County. Deputies on scene determined Ramirez-Ramos was living in the U.S. illegally and has previously been deported three times.

Investigators said eight passengers in his vehicle were illegal immigrants.

Ramirez-Ramos told deputies he did not know where the immigrants were from but said he was paid $1,000 to transport them from Phoenix to Charlotte.

He was charged with illegal reentry after deportation and harboring illegal aliens. He pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2016 and was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison and three years of supervised release.

He will face deportation proceedings after serving his sentence.

There needs to be some remote island to put these repeat offenders on...and leave them there!
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

Makes no sense - he will be free for 3 yrs on supervised release, THEN will face a deportation hearing. Get rid of him after he serves the 2yrs - go directly from jail to the border. He will be released to do what, run and hide somewhere amongst millions of illegals and get a job too. He is an illegal, he has no permission to work here. He quite likely is working for a syndicate too, running border crossers from Arizona to NC That was his JOB. The sentence is ridiculous.

    Pacific island called Palmyra Atoll

Palmyra Atoll is one of the most remote places on Earth. Located about 1,000 miles south of Hawaii

Exactly. As soon as the two years are up he will be gone and back to being an interior coyote under a different stolen or false identity. .

The people need to start looking at the judges that are handing out these sentences. Or, the DOJ should work on sentencing guidelines that prohibit probation to a foreign national if that is possible.
