U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Mexican man with two burglary convictions on Thursday.

The Harlingen Fugitive Operations Unit arrested Rolando Trevino-Cruz, a Mexican citizen with two burglary convictions, in Edinburg, according to the federal criminal complaint against him and Hidalgo County court records.

"Record checks revealed the defendant was formally removed from the United States to Mexico on March 31, 2016, via the Del Rio, Texas Port of Entry," according to the federal criminal complaint.
Trevino returned to the United States less than a year later.

"The defendant claims to have illegally re-entered the United States on or about February 25, 2017 by wading the Rio Grande River at or near Progreso, Texas," according to the federal criminal complaint.
Trevino had two burglary convictions in Hidalgo County:

  • On July 24, 2009, Trevino was convicted of burglary of habitation, a second-degree felony. A judge sentenced him to three years in prison.
  • On Dec. 3, 2012, Trevino was convicted of attempted burglary of habitation, a third-degree felony. A judge sentenced him to two years in prison.

He's now charged with illegal re-entry.

Court records don't list an attorney for Trevino, who remains in federal custody and couldn't be reached for comment.
