Federal officials say two metro Atlanta men have been arrested and charged with selling fake work permits to foreigners for at least ten-thousand dollars each.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Richard Rocha said Thursday. According to a grand jury indictment, from May 2003 until January, Sheng Feng Sun and Sang Hun Oh allegedly ran the fake work visa business out of Sun's vocational institution, Edgewood College of Georgia, in Norcross.
Companies that want to hire foreign workers who have at least a bachelor's degree need to get the approval of the Department of Labor by certifying how much they're paying the foreigners and for what specific responsibilities. That approval is then used to get a permit from the Citizenship and Immigration Services for the foreigners to live in the
U.S for up to three years, provided theycontinue to do the same job for the same company.
The indictment alleges that Sun pretended to have hired
foreigners at the college and, with Oh's help, paid them regularly as employees, though the foreigners had to reimburse Edgewood College of Georgia for the phony salaries as well as the taxes levied on their false employment.
Four foreigners' initials are listed in the indictment as part of the scheme.
