Smyrna mayor 'flagged' at meeting

SMYRNA - A bewildered Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon was presented with a small Mexican flag at the end of Monday night's City Council meeting.

Smyrna resident Mary Kirkendoff presented the flag to Bacon, which he refused, during the public comment section of the meeting.

Kirkendoff believes Bacon and the city are too lenient when dealing with illegal immigrants.

"Illegals find safety and sanctuary in this part of Cobb County," she said.

Her three minute speech was about patriotism.

Kirkendoff applauded Cobb County government and the Cobb sheriff, who work with Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers to start deportation proceedings on illegal immigrants at the county jail.

"On the other hand, Smyrna releases them back on to the streets," she said.

Kirkendoff said illegal immigrants are responsible for many of the crimes reported throughout the county, including the most recent attacks on the Silver Comet Trail.

On Feb. 23, two men in their early 20s were attacked by five males on the Silver Comet Trail in Powder Springs.

Powder Springs police arrested Carlos Bracamonte, 18, on Thursday, and charged him with simple battery, a misdemeanor. He is being held at the Cobb County Jail with a $5,000 bond. ICE placed a hold on Bracamonte, meaning after he faces his charges in Cobb, he will be turned over to ICE agents to determine if he's in the country illegally.

The other four suspects involved in the attacks are described as black males.

Kirkendoff, who has been an outspoken critic of the way the city handles illegal immigrants, also claims the city of Smyrna often ignores federal and state immigration laws, including checking the immigration status of people who do work for the city.

"I don't know what defines corruption more than ignoring the laws," Kirkendoff said.

As she approached the mayor desk Monday night, unfurling the small flag, she asked him to decide which flag - American or Mexican - he wanted to fly above City Hall.

Bacon was clearly angered by Kirkendoff's speech and the use of the Mexican flag.

"I don't want to take anything from you," Bacon told Kirkendoff.

The flag was left sitting on Bacon's desk at the end of the meeting.

Ha. How absurd can an American mayor get? I wish I could have witnesed that too. That mayor should step down if he cant perform his services for the American people. Afterall, that is who he is supposed to be working for, not illegal aliens.

Way to go Ms. Kirkenoff! Max Bacon And Smyrna are the laughing stock of Georgia for the way the let the immigrants hang in Smyrna. It is said that no one has to vacaton in Mexico anymore, just come to Smyrna. You rarely see an american person on South Cobb Drive anymore.

3 cheers for Mary!!! It's about time Smyrna's arrogant leadership was exposed. Smyrna's failure to comply with GA and Federal laws is despicable, and unfortunately, they are not alone. Hooray for Mary Kirkendall ! (American Citizens have rights too). The right of free speech is guaranteed in the Constitution. Through bullying and intimidation Mayor Bacon and Commissioner McBad have been lying to the citizens of Smyrna. Providing sanctuary to criminals, (for profit), has never been a very popular thing to do. Putting an end to this illegal and immoral business cannot happen soon enough. Every Georgian should applaud the efforts of activists like Kirkendall, she is protecting your children and grand children from these criminals.

The guilty politicians who favor illegal aliens over their American fellow citizens are the most angered when attention is cast upon them for their lack of patriotism. I praise Mary for her stand and her thoughtfulness on presenting the Mexican flag to the mayor. Even though he didn't accept the flag, he obviously has issues with illegal immigrants that favor them over American citizens.

I applaud Ms. Kirkendolls' courage. When the children and grandchildren of these illegal aliens are grown and the baby boomers have all died out, population dynamics will change and no politician will get elected unless he is willing to erase the US/Mexican border and grant citizenship to anyone who crosses the border. Good for Mary! Maybe we can start sending these flags to our Congressmen/women in Washington DC whenever they vote on bills supporting illegal aliens. I know I'm going to try and find someplace where I can purchase a batch of these small Mexican flags and begin mailing them. Thank you, Mary, for the idea and for standing up to Mayor Bacon who apparently favors illegals over American citizens.
