    Gallegly concerned Democrats might force immigration reform bill

    WASHINGTON — With the fight over illegal immigration heating up, Rep. Elton Gallegly said Friday he fears Democrats will try to shove an immigration reform bill through a lame-duck Congress shortly after the election this fall.

    Republicans appear poised to make significant gains in the Nov. 2 elections and could possibly take back the majority in the House or the Senate. But even if they do, the new Congress would not be sworn into office until early January. That would give Democrats an eight-week window to pursue their agenda before they have to cede power to the GOP.

    I think there may be more Democrat politicians who realize this would be a bad move, mainly because of the unemployment levels. Remember, blue collar Democrats tend to get very mad. I hope we will see more of them protesting to their own Party leaders. But we can never let down our guard.
