PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Law enforcement authorities have arrested 11 people and seized numerous weapons after a nearly two-year-long investigation into gang-related activity in Providence.

Providence police said the arrests of purported members of the MS-13 gang and their alleged associates were made early Wednesday in a joint operation with the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Agency and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Among those arrested was reputed gang leader Francisco Bonilla.

The individuals face various state and federal charges. Three arrest warrants are outstanding

The operation also led to two immigration deportations and the seizure of numerous guns and $400,000.

Authorities said the Mara Salvatrucha gang is well-organized in the city and that the investigation targeted providers of drugs and firearms to gang members and associates.
