U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, a Republican candidate for governor of Georgia, has proposed changing the long-standing federal policy that automatically grants citizenship to any baby born on U.S. soil, a move opposed by immigrant rights advocates.

Supporters of Deal’s proposal say “birthright citizenshipâ€

Deal and his supporters say the 14th Amendment wording was never meant to automatically give citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants.
This is way overdue 1 out of 50 states gaining some senses? North Carolina should be the first state.

Opponents say the proposed law wouldn’t solve the illegal immigration problem and goes against this country’s traditions of welcoming immigrants.
Of course they would oppose. Illegal aliens are bankrupting our country. Americans are sick and tired of paying out benefits to illegal aliens offspring. Its got to stop.

This should have been done when Republicans controlled both Houses. Odds of this EVER getting passed are nil. The Dems know by allowing millions of illegals in and legalize them they'll control Congress forever.

Still no reason not to ask your Congressperson to co-sponsor this bill! A number of "Blue Dog Democrats" elected during the last election cycle were as opposed to amnesty as their Republican counterparts and conservative on a number of other issues, too.

My Congressman Ken Calvert did sign on thankfully. I wonder what our Constitutional Lawyer President would have to say about the 14th Amendment.

"...and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is what is throwing legal minds into a tailspin. A minor child, let's say a toddler, is subject to the jurisdiction of their parents. Question becomes whether the parents are subject to the jurisdiction of the United States or some other country. If they are foreign nationals here illegally, that like to marry off pre-pubscent girls, whose jurisdiction are they really under?

The ILLEGAL parents knew what they were doing; Abuse of the 14th Amendment to create an Anchor Baby and more ILLEGALS for United States Citizens to furnish benefits!

Well if a Mexican IA is arrested and Mexico demands the person is entitled to contact the nearest Mexican Embassy I'd say that person is under their jurisdiction. Where then is the problem? The MF's can't have it both ways! Their children are THEIR nationality.
