Pelosi Tries To Leverage Boehner On Bringing Comprehensive Immigration Reform To House Vote

October 29, 2013 by Ben Bullard

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) pre-gamed an anticipated battle over comprehensive immigration reform today by placing the ball in House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) court.

Posting on a question-and-answer session hosted on her Facebook page Tuesday, Pelosi boasted that such a plan would clear the House – if Boehner will give the legislation a chance.

“With 28 Republicans having publicly expressed support for a path to citizenship, we believe the votes are there on a bipartisan basis to pass a bill,” she wrote. “It’s just a question whether Speaker Boehner can muster the will to schedule a vote….There are Republicans who support this effort, we must make sure their voices are heard. The time for excuses is over — it’s time to pass this bill and get the job done for the American people.”

Supporters of the plan indeed have claimed 28 Republican House members as backers of comprehensive reform – although the definitive comments of some of those listed over at the web page for amnesty advocate America’s Voice reveal a bit of interpretive leeway in arriving at that number.

Here’s a chart listing those 28 GOP’ers who supposedly share a single mind on the amnesty question:

19 Days to Victory! Few Legislative Days Left This Year; If We Hold Now, We've Got 'Em!

We need you to know that everything depends on what happens in House of Representatives this year. The House is in session only 19 more days. The Open Borders coalition has very little time to push an immigration bill through this year.

Look at the battle map. This is how I see the situation.

NumbersUSA and our army of activists are all that stands between the amnesty forces and the American People.

    You are our army.

Against us are the SEIU radical union, the Senate, President Obama, Leftist billionaire George Soros, John McCain and his brand of Open Borders Republicans, Big Business and many others, with all of their money and power.

They've been trying for 13 years to ram a blanket amnesty with a huge legal immigration increase through Congress. They still haven't gotten it done, and they're getting desperate. Their greatest champion, Sen. Marco Rubio, defected this weekend, denouncing his own bill.

Of course, the Senate amnetsy bill stays alive until December of 2014, and we expect its supporters to continue pushing it next year. But next year's an election year, when it will be harder to pass controversial legislation.

We're actually in a very strong position on the battle map. True, our opponents are numerous, well provisioned, and determined. It's like we're surrounded... but keep looking at the map. The blanket amnesty forces have to break through our lines to obtain their goal. To get a bill through the House and then Congress as a whole, they have to go through us.

We only need to hold them off for 19 more days this year. But we're very short on funding: They've got billions of dollars and we're digging into reserves.

Give now if you want us to win this battle.

What advantage do we have? We have the American People behind us, agreeing with us, depending on us. We are their megaphone and their foot soldiers.

If we fail and the other side breaks through our lines, what happens? The House passes some sort of immigration bill. They send it to a Senate-House Conference Committee to "reconcile" it with S. 744, the worst immigration bill ever conceived. The losers would be the American People, including the unemployed, the shrinking middle class, etc.
