Police took 12 undocumented immigrants into custody Tuesday morning after receiving a call about 7:10 a.m. that a 24-foot boat came ashore at 455 N. County Road.

Police initially found nine in the vicinity of Everglades Avenue and North County Road, and an additional three near the north fire station on North County and Wells roads, said Sgt. Kurt Burfield. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded with a boat, a helicopter and a dog. The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted with a boat.

The immigrants are from Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas, and all were in custody by 8:30 a.m. and turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol, Burfield said.
