GOP senator introducing DACA fix next week

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) will introduce legislation on Monday to address undocumented immigrants brought into the country as minors after the Trump administration announced they would end an Obama-era immigration program.

Lankford told an Oklahoma TV station that his forthcoming bill would offer undocumented immigrants currently covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program a path to getting a green card.

"President Trump believes that there should be a permanent solution, that's a legislative solution, that provides some semblance of certainty and he's willing to be able to engage," Lankford said.

An aide confirmed that Lankford and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) will introduce their bill on Monday.


Current DACA recipients are temporarily protected from deportation and allowed to live and work in the United States legally, but the program does not grant them a green card — which gives permanent legal residence.


Lankford and Tillis (R-N.C.) said earlier this month that they were working on a replacement for DACA that would be an alternative to the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, which grants eventual citizenship.

"DACA, in its name, was deferred action. It was temporary solution," Lankford told the Oklahoma TV station. "What this offers is a permanent solution for these people so they don't continue to live their life in fear of inconsistent policies."

Lankford's push comes after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced they had reached an agreement with Trump to work out a deal that would pair a DACA fix to tighter border security measures.

Schumer told reporters earlier this week that he is "very optimistic" Democrats will still be able to get a "good deal" on a DACA fix paired with border security.
And some Democrats, as well as outside groups, are pushing Democrats to demand that the DREAM Act either get a stand-alone vote or be included in any deal.

Pelosi separately said that "our insistence in every conversation — with the Speaker, with the president or with the Dreamers — [has been] that it will be the DREAM Act."

Not doing what he promised - believe the words were "daca ends on day one" if I am elected - well..........he seems to be making deals for them to stay and bring their entire clan - all on our tax dollars and goodbye to safety from diseases, insects/larvae, raping of children/women.

So we got rid of DACA so we can just go ahead and legalize them all, once and for all. Nice going Traitor Trump. I really can't see you winning a second term after stabbing your supporters in the back. We didn't elect you so you can work for the Democrats, while turning your back on us.

We might as well face it. Our country is being taken over and there's nothing we can do about it. We either have to brace ourselves for the takeover of our country, or we have to leave the country and find somewhere safer so we can escape the onslaught. We've been betrayed by Trump and the Republican Party.

I'll have to say one thing, it's not easy when we keep getting stabbed in the back by our own. I would accept crap like this when it's coming from liberals, but it's the ultimate betrayal when it's actually coming from the people who WE put into power and voted for. I guess we'll just have to fight harder than we ever fought before. With the candidates who we chose, winning the White House, it should've been a lot easier than this.

Seems Republicans are tripping all over themselves these days to support an illegal alien amnesty! Very disgusted and disappointed.

Another republican turncoat, they might as well be liberals - only thing they get conservative @ is handing out money to Americans. No qualms @ free birthing, healthcare, schooling for the illegals & their kids and "refugees" especially the mega thousands of central americans.

That liar trump - he is on board and wants them to stay. What happened to over and out for dacas, & every illegal would have to leave & apply to come back - when are the central americans leaving?

Remember trying to figure out how he was going to deport millions of illegals - well, don't rack your brain, he is only deporting a few hundred criminals now and then. There will no mass deportations and seriously doubt E-verify to get rid of them will pass either. Probably be some kind of heart for that too.
