White House Floats Offer to Maintain Legal Immigration at 1 Million People Per Year Instead of Cutting It

As the Senate prepares to begin a free-wheeling debate over immigration next week, White House officials have begun floating a possible compromise idea — a pledge to maintain legal immigration at current levels, about 1.1 million people a year, for more than a decade.

President Trump has proposed a series of measures, including restrictions on family unification, which he calls “chain migration,” and an end to the visa lottery, that critics say ultimately could cut legal immigration to America by 40% or more.

But a White House official said Saturday that the Trump administration is working with allies in the Senate on a proposal that would create a path to citizenship for an estimated 1.8 million people who were brought to the country illegally as children, and that would clear the backlog of nearly 4 million sponsored relatives who currently are waiting for green cards.

The combined effort, officials said, would effectively make up for the cuts in other immigration categories for about 13 years, the official said. After that, if Congress takes no additional action to add or expand visa categories, the total number of people allowed to resettle in the U.S. each year likely would decline by hundreds of thousands.

I don't know what Bubble Head Boat,this "official" jumped off to "float" this, but no Trump Voter in the United States is interested in immigration reductions 13 years from now only if Congress doesn't increase immigration levels in the meantime. In fact, it's laughable, in fact, so laughable, the cat's out of the bag.

Very Simple. DO NOTHING ON DACA. These people's predicaments are not our problem, because they are not our responsibility. Get them, their parents and all their minor offspring out of our country. If you can't do that because you don't have the resources, then do nothing until you have the votes in the Senate to do your jobs without an amnesty deal.

Yeah, how about a 10 to 20 Year Moratorium on ALL Immigration? We're not required to let anyone into this country ever again. Lets demand a 10 to 20 Year Moratorium until we have a 0% unemployment rate, less than 2% underemployment rate, and a 3% poverty rate. Every problem we have is due to excess immigration and bad trade deals. Just stop immigration and all the problems is creates. Just stop it. Work to renegotiate the trade deals or cancel them. Just stay on course, stay on track, hold the line. Win more Republicans Senate seats, hopefully 10 in the mid-terms, then come out blazing in 2019 and pass our immigration bills we need and want to fix this disaster without any need to negotiate illegal amnesties.
