GOP Senators Will Force Dems to Vote on Paying Illegal Immigrants, Raising Taxes during Pandemic

    Brittany BernsteinThu, February 4, 2021, 9:56 AM

Senate Republicans will make Democrats vote on a number of controversial topics in the coming days as part of the budget reconciliation process that Democrats are using to pass President Biden’s COVID relief plan against GOP lawmakers’ wishes.

Debate on the budget resolution began Wednesday and will continue in the Senate on Thursday. After that time expires, a “vote-a-rama” begins, allowing any senator to file an amendment to the resolution.

As retribution for using budget reconciliation — which will allow Democrats to avoid the 60-vote threshold required to pass most legislation and instead only require just a simple majority vote to pass Biden’s plan — Republicans plan to force Democrats to vote on a number of hot button issues.

“The new President talks a lot about unity, but his White House staff and congressional leadership are working from the opposite playbook,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), said of the budget reconciliation process. “We’ll be discussing the facts… Senate Republicans will be ready and waiting with a host of amendments to improve the rushed procedural step that’s being jammed through.”

He continued: “We’ll be getting senators on the record about whether taxpayers should fund checks for illegal immigrants… whether Democrats should raise taxes on small businesses in the midst of this historic crisis… and whether generous federal funding should pour into school districts where the unions refuse to let schools open. And this is just a small taste.”

While not all of the amendments that are introduced will receive a full floor vote and some may be dropped for violating the Byrd rule, which says anything passed during budget reconciliation must have to do with the federal budget, senators plan to bring up a wide array of issues.

Senator Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) introduced an amendment that would keep federal funding from going to schools that don’t reopen for in-person learning as battles over whether it is safe to return to the classroom rage across the country between teachers unions and school districts.

Senator Steve Daines (R., Mont.,) said that he is spearheading seven amendments for the reconciliation process and co-sponsoring three others, including amendments that reverse Biden’s decision to scrap the Keystone XL oil pipeline project; resume oil and gas leasing on federal lands; stop tax increases while the pandemic is ongoing; prevent the federal government from using taxpayer money to implement the Paris Climate agreement; and more.

Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.,) said that he plans to introduce amendments to support funding for the U.S. nuclear weapons program; oppose taxpayer funding from being used for abortion internationally and at domestic nonprofits; oppose illegal immigrants from using U.S.-government supported health care options; and support keeping the number of Supreme Court justices at nine.

“Republicans are happy to work with Democrats to bring COVID-19 relief to the American people, but we cannot and will not support a bill that redirects funds to long-standing Democratic priorities,” Cotton said. “My amendments are designed to ensure the American people – not the Senate Democrats’ far-left policies – are protected.”

Not ONE dime of taxpayer money should be funding sanctuary cities, school, healthcare, welfare, housing, or food stamps for illegal aliens OR their offspring.

This is misappropriation and embezzlement of our tax dollars.

This is in direct violation of our Federal Immigration & Visa Law harboring, aiding, and abetting illegal aliens using our FEDERAL tax dollars to do it which encourages hundreds of thousands to breach our border and put OUR safety at risk. They should all be prosecuted for this!

They are not US citizens and neither are their children no matter where they were born.

End the anchor baby scam. That kid is a citizen of the mother's country.

Republican senators seek to ban all undocumented immigrants from new round of stimulus payments

Republican senators have introduced an amendment to the 2021 budget resolution seeking a ban on any direct stimulus payments from being distributed to undocumented immigrants, as lawmakers debated the sweeping relief measures on Thursday afternoon.

Senators Todd Young (R—IN) and Tom Cotton (R—AR) announced the amendment ahead of what’s known on Capitol Hill as a budget vote-a-rama, in which lawmakers vote on a series of amendments in a procedure that can last hours long and well into the nighttime, expected to begin at 2:30pm ET.

Undocumented immigrants have not been included in congressional relief payments, and recipients of the direct stimulus checks sent under the CARES Act were required to possess a valid Social Security number.

Democrats have since called for the next round of checks to include nearly 5.1 million US citizens or permanent resident immigrants living in families with mixed immigration status — many of which were reportedly excluded from the previous relief payments.

Under the previous coronavirus relief legislation, millions of Americans who are married to or live in households with undocumented immigrants were denied assistance as the pandemic swept through the country, the Guardian reported, impacting 1.4 million spouses and 3.7 million children.

Lawful permanent residents, as well as immigrants identified by the US government as “qualifying resident aliens” and recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program were also eligible for stimulus checks.

It was not immediately clear whether the Republican amendment to the budget resolution was specifically meant to target those 5.1 million people in mixed immigration status households. Neither senator’s office immediately responded to requests for comment.

The specifics of the amendment also remained unclear, as is typical with many last-minute amendments featured in a vote-a-rama.

The unique procedure allows lawmakers to submit amendments on pieces of scrap paper on the day of the event, and votes are non-binding — meaning the underlying bill cannot be changed.

In a statement announcing the amendment, Mr Young said: “Economic Impact Payments were intended to provide a lifeline to Americans struggling to make ends meet during the coronavirus pandemic.

They were not intended for people who are in our country illegally.”

He added: “Our amendment would ensure that people who break our immigration laws aren’t receiving taxpayer-funded handouts.”

"Taxpayer funded handouts" should include school, healthcare, welfare, food stamps, TANF, WIC, lawyers and housing!

Illegal immigrants should receive no taxpayer funded benefits.

Illegal alien parents should not collect ONE DIME on behalf of their offspring either.

Keep the family together, deport them all on the same bus back home with their minor children.

Illegal aliens will continue to collect benefits as long as their children are given citizenship at birth. Multitudes of these children have already reached voting age and are mobilized to vote by the Democrat party. States will continue to flip blue as ever more come of age.

Swing State Democrats Join Senate Republicans to Block Stimulus Checks for Illegal Aliens

A handful of swing state Senate Democrats joined Senate Republicans on Thursday to add a budget amendment that will help ensure that stimulus checks, funded by American taxpayers, are not given to illegal aliens living in the United States.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Todd Young (R-IN) proposed an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2021 Budget that will likely block the inclusion of stimulus checks for illegal aliens in any Chinese coronavirus relief package.

All 50 Senate Republicans supported the amendment, as well as eight swing state Senate Democrats.

Those Democrats include Sens. Krysten Sinema (D-AZ), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Gary Peters (D-MI), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Jon Tester (D-MT), and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

“The Biden administration shouldn’t reward illegal immigrants for breaking our laws by giving them checks,” Cotton said in a statement. “Instead of courting foreigners with U.S. taxpayer funds, President Biden should use that money to aid American schools, businesses, and families.”

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) sent Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans an email urging them to support the Cotton-Young amendment.

“Now that a third round of payments is being discussed – while a White House-driven border crisis is beginning to take shape – there is an appetite to provide taxpayer-funded handouts to illegal aliens as well. This cannot and should not happen,” the FAIR email, obtained by Breitbart News, states.

The vote is critical for President Joe Biden’s administration because it shows the lack of support in the Senate Democrat caucus for pro-illegal immigration policies — and potentially a DREAM Act-style amnesty — specifically among those who represent swing states and will be up for re-election in 2022 and 2024.

Hassan, for instance, is up for re-election in 2022. During her last election, she barely unseated then-Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) with only about 1,000 votes separating the two.

Likewise, Sinema, Stabenow, Manchin, and Tester are all up for re-election in 2024. Many of their vote margins in their 2018 Senate runs were small. Tester, for example, won against Republican Matt Rosendale by less than 18,000 while Manchin won re-election by less than 19,400 votes.
