Governors of Ariz., NM take tour of border

Governors of Ariz., NM take tour of border

DOUGLAS, Ariz. - Govs. Jan Brewer of Arizona and Bill Richardson of New Mexico took a helicopter tour of the Mexican border on Wednesday to get border security updates and an aerial view of the site where a rancher was fatally shot 11 days ago.

Brewer said she saw smuggling routes, would-be illegal border-crossers waiting to cross into Arizona and the arrests of illegal immigrants who were crossing the desert with their belongings in plastic bags.

Richardson was briefed on National Guard operations at the border. A few days after the rancher was killed, Richardson ordered state police and the National Guard to beef up surveillance and patrols in the area.

Brewer has asked the federal government to pay for sending 250 National Guard troops to her state's border to supplement the 150 troops already there, as part of a long-standing border assistance program.

Investigators believe the gunman who shot rancher Robert Krentz in southeastern Arizona was an illegal immigrant, but they don't know whether he was a rank-and-file immigrant who came to the United States to work a legitimate job or whether he was a smuggler.

U.S. Homeland Security spokesman Matt Chandler said the federal government has put people along the border to combat potential threats of violence tied to smuggling.

Well, Matt, apparently you did not put enough people on the border because the rancher is still dead.

Yep, let's take this opportunity to get some media attention and photo ops.

You're at the wrong end! If you want an update on border security, or lack thereof, take a look at our cities. You can start with Arizona and New Mexico. - look at the barrios that have infiltrated our cities like weeds. Take a look at our jails where many of those having been arrested are illegal invaders. Take a look in our schools where over half the student body in some locations are illegal invaders or the spawn thereof. Go to your nearest Home Depot and count the number of invaders loitering about, looking to obtain work illegally!

That will give you some indication of how bad border security really is. Oh yeah...when you're done with that, count the number of American citizens who are being murderd by illegal invaders. The Arizona rancher is just the tip of the iceberg!

This should give you some indication of how bad border security is at the moment! I realize however, that flying over the border in a helicopter makes for better press coverage and is probably much less revealing.

    No kidding Captainron!

I don't consider a murderer a "rank-and-file" human and I sure don't care why he entered the US illegally and there is no acceptable or logical reason to classify illegal immigrants. None are better are worse, they are all the same. They are all dishonest lawbreakers, whose crime spree just begins at the border.
