Governors huddle on meth fight, fake papers
    The Associated Press

PHOENIX - The governors of Arizona and Nevada met Thursday to discuss efforts to strengthen border security and combat methamphetamine trafficking.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano said she and Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons talked about confronting the fake documents used by illegal immigrants and addressing drug trafficking, specifically the smuggling of meth from Mexico into the United States.

Napolitano also said they discussed how the two states can more easily share intelligence in those efforts.

Gibbons said such discussions will make a significant difference in the lives of people in both states.

"Our law enforcement officers are doing a tremendous job at the states' borders," Gibbons said after the meeting. "However, organized crime rings continue to develop new and innovative ways to circumvent law enforcement to transport illicit drugs between Mexico, Arizona and Nevada."

Gibbons also said he'll look into the possibility of a task force to help stop the use of fake documents. He noted that Arizona formed a task force that has succeeded in confiscating thousands of fake documents each year.
