A Guatemalan man who made the mistake of trying to fly home with a set of brass knuckles in his carry-on luggage is on his way home again, courtesy of Uncle Sam.

David DeJesus Tum-Us, 24, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to possession of a fraudulent alien document.

U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon immediately sentenced him to time served, which clears the way for federal marshals to hand him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.

After he was detained for the brass knuckles at Pittsburgh International Airport on Dec. 27, Tum-Us admitted in subsequent interviews that he had lived illegally in Pittsburgh for the past three years.

He paid $300 about two years ago to obtain a fake Social Security card and a fake legal resident “green” card so he could work at two local restaurants, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Eberle.

Tum-Us told officials that he had seen the brass knuckles at the apartment where he had been staying but said they were not his and the he did not know they were in his luggage, Eberle said.
