Oct. 2, 2014 – L.A. Fashion District businesses ordered to report more cash transactions as part of massive money laundering investigation

In the latest development in the probe by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) targeting alleged money laundering activities in Los Angeles' garment trade, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced Thursday the issuance of a Geographic Targeting Order (GTO) that imposes additional reporting and recordkeeping obligations on certain businesses located within the city's fashion district. Sept. 29, 2014 – ICE Chicago officers deport man wanted in Mexico on murder charges

A Mexican fugitive wanted in his home country on outstanding murder charges was deported by officers with ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Full Story

Oct. 1, 2014 – Canadian sentenced for trafficking in counterfeit airbags

A British Columbia man who sold counterfeit airbags sourced from China on eBay was sentenced Tuesday to six months in federal prison, three years' supervised release and was ordered to pay $33,000 in restitution, following an investigation by ICE HSI. Full Story

Oct. 1, 2014 – Jury finds Bay Area gang members linked to triple murder guilty

Following a three-month trial, a federal jury returned guilty verdicts Tuesday against three Bay Area gang members, including one who shot and wounded three ICE HSI special agents when they sought to arrest him in May 2012. Full Story

Oct. 2, 2014 – HSI, Honduran authorities arrest 2 fugitives wanted on homicide charges

A multi-agency law enforcement operation along the Honduran and Nicaraguan border Tuesday yielded the arrest of two Honduran fugitives wanted on homicide charges. ICE HSI special agents from the HSI Assistant Attaché Office in Honduras, the Honduran National Police's Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Interpol participated in the operation focused on border security. DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart today issued this statement following the capture of Hector Beltran-Leyva:
"One of the world's biggest drug empires continues to crumble with the capture of Hector Beltran-Leyva in Mexico. Much of the violence and lawlessness that has plagued Mexico can be traced to this criminal regime. Beltran-Leyva's organization smuggled countless amounts of lethal and highly addictive drugs into the United States and other parts of the world, facilitating addiction, violence, and death. DEA congratulates the Government of Mexico and the brave individuals who carried out this operation and we pledge our continued commitment to the relentless pursuit of global drug traffickers."
