Narcotics ‘Backpackers’ Arrested near Yuma
(Monday, April 20, 2009)
Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Station apprehended eight narcotics smugglers trekking across the desert.
On April 18, at about 9:30 pm, a U.S. Border Patrol agent manning a Mobile Surveillance System ground-based radar unit east of Yuma, Ariz., detected a group of eight persons traveling north from the international boundary.
U.S. Border Patrol agents along with CBP Air and Marine helicopter pilots apprehended eight individuals. Each of the individuals was carrying large a “backpack-styleâ€NO AMNESTY
