A grassroots immigration enforcement activist believes that increased enforcement at state and local levels has been a major factor in the recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report that showed the illegal alien population declined by almost a million people.



The DHS reports that the illegal alien population in the United States dropped to 10.8 million in 2009 from 11.6 million in 2008, marking the second consecutive annual decline and the largest in at least three decades.

William Gheen (ALIPAC)William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), says the decline is not just because of the struggling economy.

"While we acknowledge that the bad economy is playing a role in that, our side also wants to stress that...increased enforcement, especially on the state level, has played a big role in that," the ALIPAC president notes. "We have reports from members of the media and government officials from both local and state level areas where immigration enforcement is taking place, the illegals leave those areas," he adds. "So we know that illegal aliens are facing increased hostility from the American public, groups and organizations, city, county and state government."

Gheen believes that illegals are clearly on the run.

It's more like 25 million according to border patrol figures . But now I guess the borders are secure and we can now grant amnesty for all those that are left . How can people this stupid be in charge of anything ?

I think the economy and the government's talk regarding amnesty have more people upset about illegals. People who were not against them in the past have changed their minds. I am seeing and more people getting vocal about illegals in the comments after articles in the newspaper. One of our biggest hsopitals in Miami is broke and you would not believe how many people are claiming illegals using that hospital play a big factor in that situation. I have never heard this much send all illegals back and end the wetfoot dry foot policy ever.

I still have no faith in such reports. I might begin to believe it when it can be statistically proven to be happening in Sanctuary Cities and States such as my own. JMHO

Am I the only one that believes that DHS will say anything they need to so they convince us they are actually doing something? This is the same group of people that decided I was a home-grown terrorist because I want something done about illegal immigrants and I'm not so much "for" abortions anymore.

And, remember, DHS is Janet's "prom queen" replacement platform.
