Hayworth: Mexico is hypocritical and arrogant
05/09/2006 05:18:07

The latest border news has immigration hardliner Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., fuming.

He is outraged by the story that the U.S. government is keeping tabs on Minuteman Project border patrols and keeping Mexico informed of their whereabouts.

And Hayworth is upset about other reports that the Mexican consul general in Phoenix is trying to legally undermine Arizona's anti-human-trafficking "coyote" law.

Hayworth charged that the Mexican government "only seems to care about its citizens when they are breaking our laws."

Hayworth issued this statement today:

“It boggles the mind that our government is tipping off the Mexicans and telling them where and when to cross the border. It’s like telling illegal immigrants, ‘Don’t cross over there – you might actually get caught and detained.’ It’s crazy.

“The Mexican government has no right to challenge Arizona’s coyote law. Their interference shows a blatant disrespect for our laws and our citizens. It must cease.

“Too bad the Mexican government only seems to care about its citizens when they are breaking our laws. Maybe they should put more effort into reforming their own country. Their hypocrisy and arrogance are downright monumental.”
