BISMARCK, N.D.

Federal officials at the Pembina border crossing in northeastern North Dakota say they seized 555 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.6 million.

It happened late Saturday night, after a Customs and Border Protection agent ordered a close examination of a truck-trailer.

Officials say the marijuana was hidden in the floorboards of the trailer, in 488 vacuum-packed bags.

A statement from border officials said the tractor-trailer combination, valued at $34,000, was also seized. The driver was questioned and released.
