DES MOINES, Iowa -- A New Jersey man accused of conspiracy, fraud and making false statements in relation to visa applications is asking a federal judge to dismiss most of the dozen charges against him.

Praveen Andapally of Edison was arrested last month. The president of Venturisoft Inc., of South Plainfield and Clive, Iowa, has denied any wrongoing. Andapally argues prosecutors failed to show he defrauded the government of property or money, so the fraud charges should be dismissed.

Ten others and another New Jersey corporation were named on other charges alleging they misused H-1B visas, allowing employers to hire foreign workers for high-skilled and advanced-degree jobs.

Trial for the individuals is scheduled April 27 and May 25 for the corporation.
