National Journal writer Elahe Izadi over-estimated that the crowd size at the pro-amnesty rally on the National Mall on Tuesday was about 20,000 attendees.

“Organizers estimated 20,000 protesters attended at the peak of the rally,” Izadi wrote in a piece she published Tuesday evening on National Journal’s website about the event.

Photographs and videos of the crowd Breitbart News and other media outlets took of the rally show that a generous estimate of the crowd size was about 5,000 attendees at its peak on Tuesday afternoon as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took the stage.

Izadi made no mention of the fact that rally organizers had said on Monday and on Tuesday morning that they expected "hundreds of thousands" of attendees at the event. As Breitbart News has reported, the group under-delivered on that promise made via Twitter.

Izadi’s over-estimation of the crowd size comes as the National Journal tries to rebrand itself as a major news outlet. The outlet just hired Tim Grieve as its new editor-in-chief. Grieve has written to his new staff internally that he wants to improve the reporting and news-gathering qualities of the outlet.

Other media outlets did not make the same mistake Izadi did in her piece. “Organizers predicted tens of thousands of people would attend the Camino Americano: March for Immigrant Dignity and Respect rally featuring performances by popular Latino musicians and speeches by members of Congress as well as civil rights, religious and community leaders,” the Washington Post, for instance, reported. “But the crowd was considerably smaller, and grew even smaller after a popular singing group finished its performance.”

Southern California Public Radio station 89.3 KPCC reported from the scene that “several hundred people” showed up.

Fox News Latino similarly implied that the promised “tens of thousands” was not likely accurate, writing in a piece that organizers “had vowed to bring together "tens of thousands" of participants, but an actual head count as the event got started was not yet available.”

Via her Twitter account, Izadi seemed to cheer on the amnesty rally. "Rep. Gutierrez gets a TOTAL ROCKSTAR welcome at the immigration rally," Izadi Tweeted as Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), the leading advocate for amnesty in the House of Representatives, took the stage to speak, for instance.
