GOP complains health insurance money going to illegal immigr

WA: GOP complains health insurance money going to illegal immigrants

    BY BRAD SHANNON

    THE OLYMPIAN

A state senator raised concerns today that Washington’s expansion of children’s health insurance coverage next month will cover 7,000 more non-citizens than previously thought.

The effect of the caseload change, Republican Sen. Joseph Zarelli of Ridgefield said, is to boost costs of the program about 54 percent, to $45 million in the two-year budget cycle that starts July 1.

Of that, $25 million will be spent on illegal immigrants, Zarelli asserted in a data sheet his aides handed out before a quarterly meeting of the state Caseload Forecast Council.

It said the public should decide whether the state should be paying so much to insure non-citizens’ kids, some of whom are illegal residents, when many citizens do not have health care.

“It’s an issue with the public that needs to be debated. It is not just for us in Olympia to decide,â€

Have you two signed I-966, the petition to get enough registered voters to put it on the ballot this fall? It is to stop the Wash government from using our tax dollars from funding all these programs for illegals? The petitions have to been mailed in this coming week, but need a slug of signatures, I do not know how many they have.

I'll sign. I'll try to get a copy in Clark Co. Democrats seem to think that they can endlessly add new programs and expenditures to any governnmental budget. Of course then they have to find some new tax (tolling roads is going to be one of the big ones). I have been in support of providing health care for those not covered--if wasteful pracices are removed. But I'm certainly not in favor of providing healthcare for anyone who manages to get in here. That could be a job for voluntary services--not for taxpayers money. Volunteers and their organizations already get significant tax breaks.

Free medical care for everyone is just a welcome mat that will have muddy boots tramping all across it.

Health care for illegal immigrants questioned

    JOSEPH TURNER; The News Tribune

Washington is paying for medical treatment and health coverage for large numbers of illegal immigrants at the expense of other poor families who are U.S. citizens, a state lawmaker said Thursday.
The cost of that coverage also is $15 million higher than what Democrats predicted earlier this year when they passed a law to expand subsidized health care programs for children.

“This is a program that mostly benefits kids of illegal immigrant families,â€

I don't live in that area, but it's all our tax dollars, how can one get ahold of this petition.
