In a press conference on Wednesday that touted the accomplishments of the so-called Lame Duck session of Congress, President Barack Obama spoke about the importance of immigration reform and reiterated that the failure to pass the DREAM Act may be his "biggest disappointment."
Obama said that these children grow up like other kids in America, only to find themselves under a "shadow of fear" through no fault of their own.
The DREAM Act would have cleared the way for legalizing young undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country before the age of 16, lived here continuously for at least five years, and who either go to college or enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces. It passed the House but failed in the Senate in a procedural vote.
Critics alleged that passing the DREAM Act would be the equivalent of amnesty, which in turn would encourage more foreigners to cross borders into the United States illegally.
The Migration Policy Institute says that the measure would have immediately favored more than 700,000 young people, while the Department of Education estimates that more than 50,000 college-eligible undocumented immigrants graduate from U.S. high schools every year.
President Barack Obama and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus agreed Tuesday that immigration reform is still an important priority for the next legislature, the White House said.
The lawmakers present at the Tuesday meeting were Sen. Bob Menéndez of New Jersey and Reps. Xavier Becerra of California, Nydia Velázquez of New York, Charlie González of Texas and LuÃ*s Gutiérrez of Illinois. All are Democrats.

Any Rewards
ANY rewards or incentives for illegal immigration, including Birthright citizenship, amnesty, handouts etc, only guarantee more of the same. If you give a freakin lollipop for entering the U S illegally lines will form to do so.
It has to end with a STERN "NO" and very unpleasant penalties or the numbers flooding across the border will only increase as populations south of us increase.

They learn to have no respect for our country, our flag, our language, our laws. They grow up to believe they have "rights" in this country. All they have to do is lie, steal ID's, march in the streets, make demands and they will have the right to stay and never have to worry about supporting themselves and their off spring. Then they learn all about free health care, free education for their children and thenselves if they want to go to school.
No, obama, they DO NOT live "in the shadow of fear." They are "in your face" and do not care if they are here illegally.
It gets me po'd when someone tries to tell me how these children have to hide and live in the shadows. Or maybe I have xray vision because I have seen them in stores, on the streets and in their cars loud and proud.
Don't try to tell me all these lies and ask me to swollow it. REAL Americans have seem the truth and we hear it every day.
Lies do not make you right or smart. They make you look stupid obama. And WE are not the stupid ones.

12-23-2010, 12:29 PM #9President Barack Obama and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus agreed Tuesday that immigration reform is still an important priority for the next legislature, the White House said.
a.) Congress must clarify the Jurisdiction Clause of the 14th Amendment to state that birthright citizenship only applies to children of current citizens and permanent legal residents. It would NOT apply to children of tourists, foreign students, diplomats (as is the case now), or any type of illegal alien.
b.) End chain immigration which tilts legal immigration highly in favor of groups/nationalities having the most recent immigrants. We have a Ponzi scheme like immigration system. Alter legal immigration, if any, to favor those with the skills and labor needed.
c.) Increased border enforcement to prevent illegal immigration and enhance national security.
d.) No more visa lotteries.
e.) Nationwide mandatory e-verify (or equivalent) with large fines and/or jail for hires not done within the system, including domestic help, etc.
f. Reduce legal immigration to be in line with need and national interest, historical levels, and that of other countries. Base numbers on the reality of today, not pointless platitudes of yesterday. Or, are they abominable Obamatudes in this case? Immigration that can be absorbed by a half-full melting pot is not the same as with a melting pot already bubbling over. Throwing cold water on hot oil in a pot causes explosions, not mixing or melting.
g. Have an e-verify type system for Social Service offices. Any state or local office not using it will lose federal funding.
h. Return our schools to teaching math, science, history, English, and logic rather than having 20 years of PC indoctrination and thought control. -- tangential, but appropriate.
i. Any local government accepting matricular consular cards or other non-U.S. issued identification or providing illegal alien sanctuary will lose federal funding.
j. Provide all members of Congress with the following from former AFL president Samuel Gompers:
"America must not be overwhelmed.
"Every effort to enact immigration legislation must expect to meet a number of hostile forces and, in particular, two hostile forces of considerable strength.
"One of these is composed of corporation employers who desire to employ physical strength (broad backs) at the lowest possible wage and who prefer a rapidly revolving labor supply at low wages to a regular supply of American wage earners at fair wages.
"The other is composed of racial groups in the United States who oppose all restrictive legislation because they want the doors left open for an influx of their countrymen regardless of the menace to the people of their adopted country.'
k. In exchange for the above pass the Dream Act adding the provisions that applicants must either have a GPA in the top 50% of their state's graduates or score in the top 50% on college entrance exams or serve 4 or more years in the U.S. military with honorable discharge. Add the provision that any person applying for amnesty under the Act knowing that he/she does not meet Dream Act requirements will be subject to immediate deportation. Any waivers allowed to be granted must only be as extreme hardship limited time extensions rather than waivers of the act itself for public health, public charge, smuggling, and marriage fraud as was the case in the recently defeated Dream Act.
