Local Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) Center To be Completed And Opened This Summer On Sixth Avenue West

WHKP News is reporting on Monday May 14th that ICE, or the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, will be completing renovations on a Hendersonville building this summer that will become their local headquarters and detention center.

A spokesman for ICE and for Homeland Security in Atlanta told WHKP News that work is almost complete on the building, which is a former physician's office, located at the intersection of 6th Avenue West and Justice Street with an entrance on Park Hill Court.

The spokesman said the local ICE operation is currently based in the county sheriff's department facilities, and this new location will give them more room and allow them to expand and better serve the entire region.

The ICE operation is closely connected to the 287-G program which was begun here several years ago with the assistance of federal funds by the Henderson County Sheriff's Department to identify and remove illegal immigrants who have entered the local criminal justice system.

A large fence enclosure was recently completed around the Park Hill Court entrance of the local facility, and the ICE and Homeland Security spokesman told WHKP News he expects the facility to be occupied and in operation as soon as the renovations on the building and property are finished this summer.
