Three members of the Iowa Minuteman Civil Defense Corps held up signs protesting illegal immigration Saturday outside the Home & Garden Show in Des Moines.
"The reason we picked the Home & Garden Show is because home builders and lawn-care companies are notorious for hiring illegal immigrants," said Robert Ussery of Des Moines, Iowa chapter leader.
The group said it wanted to encourage employers to check the credentials of their employees so they do not hire undocumented immigrants.
According to the picketers, the group educates the public about illegal-immigration issues, works to enforce or change current laws, and contributes to border-control efforts. The Iowa chapter was organized in June 2006 and has 50 members, Ussery said.
"We're getting lots of thumbs up and lots of stopping and talking," said Ron Duncan of Missouri Valley.
Duncan said the group intended to picket for a few hours Saturday.
The Home & Garden Show continues today at Hy-Vee Hall, 730 Third St. in Des Moines.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

More great Americans!!
Never look at another flag. Remember, that behind Government, there is your country, and that you belong to her as you do belong to your own mother. Stand by her as you would stand by your own mother

I think it is great that they are doing so.
I was thinking about illegals doing home renovation work while listening to calls on the police radio. It seems to me that there has been an increase in complaints about stolen items by handymen and home renovations employees. Maybe that should be included in conversations with people along with the possibly poor workmanship.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
