CEDAR RAPIDS | A man who was residing in North Iowa illegally and accused of using a false ID to obtain a job will spend eight months in a federal prison.
Felix Figueroa-Sanchez, 30, of Guatemala, had been deported two times before he returned to the U.S. and used false identification to get a job in Eagle Grove.
Figueroa attempted to use an American citizen's Social Security number before he admitted he had previously deported in October 2008 and February 2010, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In August 2017, federal authorities discovered Figueroa-Sanchez was residing in the U.S. illegally after he was arrested and convicted of an assault in Wright County.
Along with the eight-month sentence, Figueroa-Sanchez is also required to serve a three-year term of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
He is currently in U.S. Marshal custody until he is moved to a federal prison.
