COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Several viewers reached out to 11 News on Tuesday about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Colorado Springs on Tuesday. A video was circulating on social media of activity in the area of Powers and Astrozon.

ICE confirmed with 11 News the video did display "ICE officers professionally carrying out their law enforcement duties." The agency added they do not conduct random operations or checkpoints.

"ICE deportation officers carry out targeted enforcement operations daily nationwide as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to protect the nation, uphold public safety, and protect the integrity of our immigration laws and border controls," Public Affairs Officer for ICE Alethea Smock wrote.

ICE did not provide other details on the activity taking place Tuesday morning in Colorado Springs. If more information becomes available this article will be updated.

ICE also provided this additional background on their agency:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is charged with enforcing federal immigration laws enacted by Congress. As part of our mandate, our officers will conduct vehicle stops of individuals targeted for arrest. Deportation officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations are sworn law enforcement officers who carry out the arrest, detention, and removal of illegal aliens in a professional manner. ICE allocates the agency’s finite immigration enforcement resources by prioritizing public and national security threats, immigration fugitives and illegal reentrants.

ICE continues to focus its enforcement resources on individuals who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security. ICE conducts targeted immigration enforcement in compliance with federal law and agency policy. However, ICE does not exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement. All of those in violation of the immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States.

Aliens arrested by ICE for violations of law as part of the agency’s targeted enforcement actions receive all due process afforded to them under the law. In performing their sworn duties, ICE officers conduct themselves in accordance with the authorities conveyed to them under federal law and the Constitution.
