SAN BENITO — Authorities are searching for smugglers who held 11 undocumented immigrants in a trailer at a local mobile home park, officials said Thursday.

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested eight men and three women at the Tropics mobile home park at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, San Benito Police Detective Rogelio Banda said.

The men and women were “stashed inside a mobile home, possibly against their will,” at the trailer park in the 1600 block of West Business 77, Banda said in a press release.

“No one claimed ownership of the house and no one knew who owns it,” Banda said.

Nina Pruneda, spokesman for the ICE office in San Antonio, said authorities were trying to track down the smugglers.

“It has all the makings of an alien smuggling case,” Pruneda said. “There are a lot of questions to be answered.”

The immigrants were from Mexico and Guatemala, she said.
