Border Patrol agents arrested an individual previously removed from the United States convicted of sexual assault of a child and then later rescued eight from the desert.

“Apprehension and removal of criminals who victimize our communities remain a high priority,” said Big Bend Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Chris T. Clem. “Our agents remain vigilant in their duties as we partner with other law-enforcement to keep our country safe.”

On September 3, 2020, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol Station apprehended three individuals who were determined to be illegally present in the United States.

During processing, Guillermo Martinez-Hernandez, a citizen of Mexico, was flagged as previously deported in May 2016 after having been convicted in Dallas County Court for Aggravated Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child, Sexual Contact. Martinez-Hernandez served two years before being deported to Mexico.

Later on the same day, Border Patrol Agents working with the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office rescued eight individuals after one called 911 seeking assistance.

The caller reported he had not eaten or drank anything in four days and was in need of rescue from the harsh, desert conditions near Sierra Blanca.

Border Patrol Agents located the group, provided necessary medical and welfare checks and began processing the Mexican citizens for immediate expulsion under Title 42.

Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents, patrol 517 miles of the southwest border, an area that extends from Sierra Blanca, Texas to Sanderson, Texas.

The U.S. Border Patrol is made up of over 19,000 brave men and women who courageously secure our nation’s borders. Help us secure our homeland, find out more at cbp.gov/careers.
