    ICE arrests 29 people in 8 states on human trafficking charges

    ICE arrests 29 people in 8 states on human trafficking charges, identifies 15 potential victims, following multistate undercover investigation

    MACON, Ga. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested 29 people in 13 cities and eight states Thursday on sex trafficking and related charges in a sweeping operation dubbed “Operation Safe Haven” targeting a network of illegal brothels trafficking Hispanic females. In addition to these arrests, HSI identified 15 potential human trafficking victims from brothels across the southeastern United States with assistance from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Joint Task Force – Investigations (JTF-I), ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Federal Emergency Management Administration and multiple state/local law enforcement agencies.

    Thursday’s arrests are the result of a 15-month investigation that began in July 2014 by HSI Savannah special agents in Moultrie, Georgia, who identified a loosely affiliated organization that coordinated the illegal movement of Hispanic females from Mexico and Central America across the southern border and then throughout the southeastern United States to brothels in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. The traffickers within this organization worked as independent operators to coordinate the movement and delivery of women for illegal sexual purposes.

    “As previous investigations have shown, and Operation Safe Haven again confirms, the sex trafficking of foreign women in the United States is done by loosely organized criminal networks who have little, if any regard for the women they victimize,” said Special Agent in Charge of HSI Atlanta Nick S. Annan. “This investigation identified women victimized through fraud, force and coercion, including underage teens. To the criminals behind these illegal enterprises, these women are just pieces of meat used to pull a quick profit and then discarded or passed on to the next trafficker down the line.”

    According to a five-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, at least one victim identified during the investigation was a juvenile when she was trafficked. Six suspects are charged with conspiracy to participate in the sex trafficking of a minor and 38 suspects are charged with conspiracy to transport a person in interstate commerce for prostitution – nine suspects remain at large after 29 were arrested Thursday. Three of the network’s customers are also charged with promoting the prostitution.

    Individuals charged with conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of a minor face up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine. Individuals charged with conspiracy to transport a person in interstate commerce for purposes of prostitution and individuals charged with promoting prostitution face imprisonment up to five years and a $250,000 fine. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

    The potential victims’ identities are being protected while HSI ensures they receive emergency medical assistance, food and shelter. HSI is fully committed to victim-centered investigations in which the identification, rescue and needs of victims are treated with equal weight as the prosecution of traffickers.

    HSI provides relief to victims of human trafficking by allowing for their continued presence in the United States during criminal proceedings and victims may also qualify for a T-visa, which is issued to victims of human trafficking who have complied with reasonable requests for assistance in investigations and prosecutions.

    U.S. Attorney Michael Moore’s office for the Middle District of Georgia is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

    “Human sex trafficking is a cancer that we must cut out, and then aggressively fight with all of our resources. Sometimes the trafficking victims are kidnapped and forced into sexual servitude through violence. Other times the victims are lured with the promise of a better life, and then held hostage by predators who literally financially imprison them or intimidate them with threats of harm or shame to them or their families. No matter the circumstances that brought these women into sexual servitude, they are victims. And whether the weapons used by the traffickers cause physical, mental or emotional harm, they are predators, and we will track them down no matter the cost. This investigation has been an example of the outstanding cooperation between federal and state agencies. I applaud their efforts. I also want to thank my colleagues, U.S Attorneys George Beck, Joyce Vance and Chris Canova for their partnership and assistance,” said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore.

    Operation Safe Haven is the first major investigation supported by the JTF-I since it became fully operational in July 2015. The task force directed significant funding, intelligence, and analytical support from multiple DHS agencies to bolster the special agents investigating this criminal network.

    "This operation highlights exactly what the Secretary charted us to do through these task forces,” said Dave Marwell, Director of JTF-I. “By strategically applying the broad resources of DHS against a priority investigation, criminal organizations don't stand a chance. We will continue to focus our efforts to ensure we are dismantling criminal organizations that traffic women into the U.S. for the purposes of sexual slavery."

    CBP Air and Marine Operations (AMO) crews from Miami, New Orleans and Houston flew more than 115 flight hours and launched 38 separate missions in support of the investigation using covert aerial surveillance to track suspects and identify multiple target locations.

    AMO’s presence greatly increased the situational awareness of agents on the ground.

    “Collaboration is crucial in a mission of this caliber,” said Daniel Meagher, Director Air Operations at the Jacksonville, Florida, Air and Marine Branch. “I am proud to say that our unique capabilities contributed to both the success of this mission and to the safety of all those involved.”

    Anyone who suspects instances of human trafficking is encouraged to call the HSI tip line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or the Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Online tips can be submitted at www.ice.gov/tips. Anonymous calls and tips are welcome.

    FEDS BREAK UP NETWORK OF ILLEGAL BROTHELS TRAFFICKING HISPANIC WOMEN

    by CAROLINE MAY
    2 Nov 2015

    Federal and local law enforcement officials are searching for at least nine more suspects as part of an illegal trafficking operation that smuggled women from Central America and Mexico into the U.S. to work in brothels across the southeast.

    During a one-day sweep in 13 cities and eight states — dubbed “Operation Safe Haven” — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) led an operation Thursday that resulted in the arrests of 29 people on sex trafficking charges.

    “This investigation identified women victimized through fraud, force and coercion, including underage teens,” Special Agent in Charge of HSI Atlanta Nick S. Annan said in a statement. “To the criminals behind these illegal enterprises, these women are just pieces of meat used to pull a quick profit and then discarded or passed on to the next trafficker down the line.”

    According to ICE, the arrests were the culmination of an investigation that begin last July in Moultrie, Georgia where agents uncovered an organization that used “independent operators” to traffic women across the U.S-Mexico border to brothels in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.

    The indictment, filed in Georgia, charges six with “conspiracy to participate in the sex trafficking of a minor.” Thirty-eight of the suspects have been charged with “conspiracy to transport a person in interstate commerce for prostitution” and three “customers” have been charged with promoting prostitution.

    While 29 people were arrested, nine suspects remain at large.

    In conjunction with the arrests, agents also identified 15 people believed to be trafficking victims. Though transported to the U.S. illegally, HSI is assisting them with medical attention, food and shelter. According to ICE, such victims may qualify for a T-visa granted to trafficking victims who assist with the investigation or prosecution.

    DHS Sec. Jeh Johnson praised the mission and the collaboration of multiple agencies both federal and local in making the arrests.

    “Operation Safe Haven is the first major investigation supported by the Joint Task Force for Investigations (JTF-I) since it became fully operational in July 2015,” Johnson said in a statement. “JTF-I’s sole purpose is to utilize the broad resources of DHS in a combined and coordinated way, in furtherance of border security and law enforcement. Missions like Operation Safe Haven highlight the importance of a unified DHS effort, and show all that we can accomplish by working together.”

    Breitbart News has reached out to ICE for the immigration status of the arrested traffickers.

    MAJORITY OF ARRESTS IN BROTHEL TRAFFICKING BUST ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

    by CAROLINE MAY
    2 Nov 2015

    The vast majority of the individuals arrested in last week’s multi-state human trafficking brothel bust were illegal immigrants, Breitbart News has learned.

    According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 20 of the 29 people arrested Thursday on on sex trafficking charges are in the country unlawfully. Seven are lawful permanent residents and two are U.S. citizens.

    Late last week U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) led an operation targeting a human trafficking operation that smuggled women from Central America and Mexico into the U.S. to work in brothels across the southeast.

    The investigation lead to arrests 13 cities and eight states. The indictment was filed in Georgia and charges six with “conspiracy to participate in the sex trafficking of a minor.” Thirty-eight suspects have been charged with “conspiracy to transport a person in interstate commerce for prostitution” and three “customers” have been charged with promoting prostitution. Nine suspects remain at large.

    Along with the 29 arrests, agents also identified 15 people believed to be trafficking victims who are being assisted by HSI with medical attention, food and shelter. According to ICE, such victims may qualify for a T-visa granted to trafficking victims who assist with the investigation or prosecution.

    9 charged in interstate human trafficking conspiracy

    PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A federal grand jury returned a 32-count indictment charging nine defendants, all residing in the United States illegally, in an interstate human trafficking conspiracy. This case resulted from a 15-month investigation into human trafficking activities in the Northern District of Florida by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) Panama City office and the FBI.

    The defendants are:

    • Edegardo Osorno Rodriguez, 37, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida;
    • Antonio Flores-Vargas, 31, Pensacola, Florida;
    • Jose Juan Ruiz Prudencio, 40, Montgomery, Alabama;
    • Jose Alvaro Trujillo-Santiz, 45, Panama City Beach, Florida;
    • Rosa Mirtha Cruz Vidal, 34, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida;
    • Mauro Gonzalez-Lira, 24, McComb, Mississippi;
    • Romon Tobon, 45, Starkville, Mississippi;
    • Lazaro Juarez-Juarez, 33, Atlanta, Georgia; and
    • Emerson Corvera, 30, Montgomery, Alabama.

    The indictment alleges that, between July 2014 and August 2015, the defendants engaged in a conspiracy to transport, harbor and market female aliens for prostitution in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and thereafter wired the prostitution proceeds outside the United States. In addition to the conspiracy, the defendants are also charged with: 13 counts of enticing individuals to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution; four counts of money laundering; seven counts of transporting individuals in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution; six counts of harboring an alien for the purpose of prostitution; and illegal entry by a deported alien.

    “Our communities are safer today, thanks to the hard work of our HSI special agents and our partners with the FBI,” said Susan L. McCormick, special agent in charge of HSI Tampa. “These arrests represent more than a year of intense investigative work and help highlight HSI’s commitment to the end of human trafficking.”

    These cases are a follow-up prosecution to the case of Jacobo Feliciano-Francisco, a/k/a “Kiko”, 32, of Panama City, who was sentenced Oct. 15, 2014, to spend the remainder of his life in prison after he was convicted of kidnapping, retaliating against a witness, conspiracy, and transportation and of an individual in interstate commerce for prostitution.

    As part of this investigation, federal agents executed six search warrants yesterday at the following locations: two in Pensacola, one in Santa Rosa Beach, one in Panama City Beach, one in Montgomery, Alabama, and one in Laurel, Mississippi. The ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) teams in Tallahassee and Jacksonville and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Marine Interdiction Agents assisted with the arrests. The trial is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2016.

    29 People Arrested on Sex-Trafficking Charges for Forcing Central American Women Into Prostitution

    At least one of the victims was a teenager.

    Twenty-nine people have been arrested for allegedly forcing women from Mexico and Central America into sex-trafficking and prostitution, Fox News Latino reports.

    U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents told Fox in a statement that they've identified 15 victims of the trafficking ring, at least one of whom was a teenager when she was forced into prostitution.

    According to WALB News 10, the ring originated in Moultrie, Georgia, and was responsible for coordinating border crossings for young women from Central America and Mexico. The women were then forced to have sex with at least 30 people per weekday and more on the weekends. The arrests occurred in 13 different U.S. cities after a 15-month investigation that began last July. Authorities are still looking for at least nine more suspects who have been named in the indictment.

    "To the criminals behind these illegal enterprises, these women are just pieces of meat used to pull a quick profit and then discarded or passed on to the next trafficker down the line," Atlanta Homeland Security Investigations agent Nick S. Annan told FNL.

    The women are currently receiving medical care at a shelter and will be allowed to apply for T-Visas, which are given to victims of trafficking who cooperate with the federal government. This will allow them to stay in the U.S. for three years, at which point, they'll have to apply for a green card or permanent residency.

    "To me, the number that I care the most about is that we had 15 victims that we were able to bring to safety," U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia Michael Moore told WALB 10. "So, it was a good day for law enforcement cooperation."

    This happens a lot all around the USA and falls under Mr Trumps' category of "they are bringing crime......etc".
    1. they are in the country illegally,
    2. they are destroying the lives of young women and you can be assured they are being fed hard drugs constantly,
    3. this is a serious, degrading & life ruining crime against women and young girls,
    4. in crossing state lines with their activity, they bring the FBI and much more jail time,
    5. we have to pay for housing these criminals for years,
    6. the money from their crimes is sent out of the country, not even spent here.

    This happened in Philadelphia a few years ago and details disclosed they were bringing girls in from New York, crossing state lines, on the cheap $20 bus. They had a punch card system so you can get 1 free after so may punches. They got big jail time and they said "we didn't know we were doing anything wrong".

    ICE agents arrest 111 in Utah

    SALT LAKE CITY — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Tuesday announced the results of a six-day operation that resulted in 235 illegal immigrants being arrested in

    four Western states, including 111 in Utah.

    According to a press release from ICE, the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations targeted "potentially deportable criminals" during its operation in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana.

    "All of the foreign nationals targeted by ICE ERO officers during last week’s enforcement action had prior criminal convictions.

    Many had criminal histories that included convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as child sex crimes and assault," according to the release.

    Daniel Bible, the field office director for the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations Salt Lake City, said all but seven of the people arrested in Utah had prior criminal convictions.

    The others either had a current federal warrant for their arrest, had made "significant abuses" of the visa program or had illegally entered the United States after Jan. 1, 2014, which made them

    a "priority" under the department's guidelines.
