ICE arrests 81 criminal aliens in New York City operation

ICE arrests 81 criminal aliens in New York City operation
ICE partners with NYC Probation to identify and remove criminal aliens from U.S.

    November 30, 2006

NEW YORK, NY -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and officers of the New York City Department of Probation, have arrested 80 criminal aliens in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. The arrests were made as a part of Operation Retract, an ongoing initiative by ICE’s New York office.

Operation Retract identifies and targets criminal aliens, who are currently on probation, for arrest and removal. All of the those arrested during the seven-month investigation were on probation in New York City for prior felony or misdemeanor convictions including rape, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, drug convictions and other sex offenses. All of their convictions made them subject to removal from the United States.

    Those arrested today include:

A 25 year old Chinese female, and a lawful permanent resident, was arrested and charged with attempted murder for stabbing her boyfriend numerous times. She was convicted of attempted assault and sentenced to five years probation.

An 18 year old Mexican national, who was in this country illegally, was arrested for assault. He was convicted of assault and sentenced to five years probation. The subject used a metal pipe to assault his victim, hitting him about the head and face.

A 47 year old Dominican national, who was a lawful permanent resident, was arrested for the criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance. He was convicted of criminal sale of a controlled substance and sentenced to five years probation. The subject was also arrested for domestic violence and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment. The subject was convicted of assault and criminal contempt for disobeying a court order of protection. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years probation.

“The individuals that we arrested in this operation threatened the public safety and the well being of the community. We are determined to make our communities safer for everyone and will continue to work with the New York City Probation Department and other law enforcement agencies to that end, ” said Martin D. Ficke, special agent in charge of ICE’s Office of Investigations in New York.

NYC Probation Commissioner Martin F. Horn commented, "The violent criminals arrested in our offices have abused the privilege of living in this country. Moreover we see no reason why taxpayer dollars should be spent on their supervision. The city will be a safer place when they are deported.”

The ICE arrests were the result of an eight month investigation and included citizens of the following countries: the Dominican Republic (28 ), Mexico (13), Jamaica (10), China (5), Trinidad (4), Guyana (3), El Salvador (3), Korea (2), Colombia (4), Antigua (1), Barbados (1), India (1), Grenada (1), Honduras (1), Ecuador (3) and the United Kingdom (1).

Thirty-six of the aliens were in the country illegally and 45 were legal permanent residents. ICE agents transported the aliens to various detention facilities where they will be detained and placed into removal proceedings. Those with final orders of removal will be deported from the country shortly. The others will have their cases heard before an Immigration Judge.

ICE has a toll-free number for the public to provide leads to its enforcement teams on any violations, including tips about child pornography, child sex offenders and others preying on children. The toll-free number (1-866-DHS-2ICE) is monitored 24 hours a day by officers at the ICE Law Enforcement Support Center. Is it me, but it sure seems that no matter what crime you do in New York. You get Probation.

I was thinking the same thing Scub.

If Mr. Fricke is so "determined" to make the communities safer, he should have been in the courtroom to take charge of these felons when the judge gave them probation. Instead the judge released on the public again.

Those with final orders of removal will be deported from the country shortly. The others will have their cases heard before an Immigration Judge.
What anybody want to bet they won't release the "others" with a notice to appear?

Cops and Feds Round Up Immigrant Sex Offenders

Federal immigration agents and city probation officers worked together to round up 45 sex offenders in an sting called "Operator Predator." The NYPD and and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been working together to locate sex offenders on probation who are eligible for deportation. The offenders were taken into custody after visits with their probation officers. Out of the people apprehended, 20 were in the country illegally; deportation proceedings have begun for all.

The offenders' crimes are rather grim; the Post reports they included "a Bangladeshi national convicted of having intercourse with his 14-year old cousin; a Trinidad citizen convicted of raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter; and a Romanian woman convicted of endangering the welfare of a 13-year-old boy." ICE special agent Martin Ficke said, "If you are preying on our children, we will find you, arrest you and if you are not a U.S. citizen, we will remove you from this country."

    Submitted by WW4 Report on Sat, 12/02/2006 - 01:26.
In a seven- or eight-month investigation ending Nov. 30, ICE agents joined with officers of the New York City Department of Probation in arresting 81 immigrants with prior criminal records in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. The raids were part of "Operation Retract," an ongoing effort by ICE's New York office to arrest immigrants on probation for prior misdemeanor or felony convictions and place them in removal proceedings.

Of the total number arrested, 45 were legal permanent residents and 36 were out of status. All but nine of the arrested immigrants were from either Latin America (52) or the English-speaking Caribbean (20). They came from the Dominican Republic (2, Mexico (13), Jamaica (10), China (5), Trinidad (4), Colombia (4), Guyana (3), Ecuador (3), El Salvador (3), Korea (2), Antigua (1), Barbados (1), India (1), Grenada (1), Honduras (1) and the United Kingdom (1). ICE agents transported the immigrants to detention facilities where they will be held during removal proceedings. (ICE news release, Nov. 30)

On Nov. 29, ICE arrested 45 immigrants in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan who according to ICE are "child predators and criminal alien sex offenders." The arrests were made under ICE's "Operation Predator" and were separate from those made under "Operation Retract," although the arrested immigrants were also on probation in New York City for prior misdemeanor or felony convictions. Those arrested were citizens of Bangladesh, Bosnia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Romania and Trinidad. (ICE news release, Nov. 29)

Another 137 people were arrested in New Jersey between Nov. 13 and 18 in "Return to Sender" raids, which target people with prior removal orders. ICE said 54 of those arrested had been ordered removed by an immigration judge; the other 83 were simply without status. Only 17 of the 137 had criminal records. Those arrested came from 21 countries, including Poland, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Pakistan, Egypt, India, Slovakia, Costa Rica, Albania, Macedonia and the United Kingdom. (Press of Atlantic City, Nov. 21; ICE news release, Nov. 20)
